Donations for a man who wrestled a gun from one of the attackers during the Bondi Beach shooting have exceeded A$1.1 million (US$744,000). He is currently recovering in hospital after surgery for a gunshot wound.

That brave man is Ahmed al Ahmed, 43 years old, a Muslim and father of two children.
According to witnesses, during the chaos, Ahmed took cover behind parked cars before lunging at one of the gunmen from behind, grabbing his rifle and knocking him to the ground.

According to the Prime Minister, Ahmed was then shot twice by a second attacker after he subdued and disarmed the remaining gunman. His family said he was hit by bullets in his hand and arm.
Police confirmed on Monday that a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son were the perpetrators of the attack at a Jewish community celebration on Sunday afternoon.
The incident, which left 15 people dead, became the deadliest mass shooting in Australia in nearly 30 years.
Heroic act in the midst of an attack
Ahmed's father, Mohamed Fateh, said that his son worked as a fruit and vegetable trader and had served in the police force.
Mohamed Fateh shared: "When it saw people lying on the ground in pools of blood, its conscience compelled it to immediately attack one of the terrorists and disarm them."
The family said Ahmed had undergone initial surgery and may need further operations. A photo showed him lying in a hospital bed with his left arm in a cast.
