Denmark Vietnam's number one female tennis player lost to Nozomo Okuhara 15-21, 12-21 in the first round of the 2023 Badminton World Championship on the afternoon of August 21.
Thuy Linh has never faced a Japanese player before. According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, she is ranked 25th in women's singles, while Okuhara is ranked 11 places below.
However, Okuhara is still rated higher as a former world number one. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and was the 2017 world champion. In the match at the Royal Stadium, Okuhara showed her speed and endurance surpassing Thuy Linh.

In the first set, Thuy Linh chased the score to 12-12, then let Okuhara score four points in a row twice, before losing 15-21. In the second set, the Japanese player controlled the shuttlecock almost perfectly and quickly ended with a 21-12 victory.
This is the fourth consecutive time Thuy Linh has stopped in the first round of the badminton world championships. Her best result was on her debut in 2018, when she reached the third round before losing 0-2 to He Bingjao of China.

Thuy Linh is the only Vietnamese female tennis player present at the tournament in Denmark. In the past four years, Vietnam has also had Vu Thi Trang – who reached the third round twice in 2019 and 2022.
In the men's singles, Vietnam has Nguyen Hai Dang scheduled to compete at 6:00 p.m. today against French player Christo Popov. Hai Dang is ranked 86th in the BWF, 55 places below Popov.
After the world championship, Nguyen Thuy Linh is expected to participate in the Victor Open tournament of the Super 1000 system held in China from September 5 to September 10, before heading to the 19th ASIAD.
