On November 11, the players on the Vietnam national team's call-up list were all present in Viet Tri ( Phu Tho ), preparing for the match against Laos in the second leg of Group F, the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
Returning to the national team after 11 months of injury, striker Nguyen Xuan Son traveled with his wife to the Vietnamese team's base. As soon as he got off the bus, he performed an exciting dance, then smiled brightly when he met his familiar teammates again. Remember last year, it was Phu Tho that made Xuan Son's first mark in the national team, when he debuted and made the team's 5-0 victory over Myanmar in the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
"Today is a special day because I am back in the Vietnam national team after 11 months of absence. Wearing the national team jersey after such a long time makes me extremely happy," the striker born in 1997 emotionally shared, "Coach Kim Sang Sik created the conditions and welcomed me back to the team this time. Being able to help the team and contribute to the Vietnamese flag is my honor."
"My feelings this time are no different from the first days of joining the national team. My teammates are happy to see me back and I thank coach Kim as well as my teammates for waiting for me. I have recovered 100% and am ready to play. I feel capable of playing a whole match without fear of risk," the 28-year-old striker affirmed.
Regarding the possibility of playing in the match against Laos on November 19, Xuan Son said the decision depends on coach Kim Sang Sik, and he himself will try his best in the upcoming training sessions to confirm his return. The coaching staff will also evaluate his physical condition and performance before making a final decision.
"I am trying very hard to regain my form and be ready to deliver my best performance," Xuan Son said. "I don't know how likely I am to be able to play in the Laos match, because it depends on Coach Kim's decision. Personally, I am always ready to play the whole match, not only the Laos match but also the other matches.
If I get to play against Laos, I will enjoy the match, try to score or assist. The most important thing is that the Vietnamese team wins. I just want to say thank you for all your support. I love the Vietnamese shirt and will fight to the best of my ability for it." Xuan Son emphasized.
According to the plan, on November 15, the Vietnamese team will go to Laos to prepare for the match against the home team at 7:00 p.m. on November 19. Currently, coach Kim Sang Sik's Vietnam team is ranked 2nd in Group F with 9 points after 4 matches, while Laos is ranked 3rd with 3 points. Topping Group F is Malaysia, with 12 points.
