The only restaurant in Vietnam in the top 50 best in Asia

Taking second place is Florilège, also in Tokyo, with Bangkok restaurant Gaggan Anand rounding out the top three.

In the special award category, Hong Kong chef Danny Yip of The Chair (top 5) received the icon award, while Thai Pichaya "Pam" Soontornyanakij was named best female chef. Her restaurant Potong climbed from 35th to 17th place.

Appearing at number 48 is the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City - Anan Saigon, located on Ton That Dam Street, District 1, in the Old Market area right in the city center, run by Vietnamese chef Peter Cuong Franklin.

"Chef Peter Cuong Franklin, a pioneer of modern Vietnamese cuisine and one of the most recognizable faces in the country's burgeoning culinary scene, launched Anan Saigon to showcase local dishes, with a particular focus on street food. Chef Cuong was inspired by his mother, who used to run a small noodle shop in Da Lat. The restaurant was named Vietnam's best restaurant for the second year in a row," the awards' information page commented.
