Musical about the heart of a girl affected by Agent Orange will be in Korea

The Vietnam Youth Theatre, together with the SangsangMaru Theatre and the Guri Cultural Foundation of Korea, are staging the musical My Dream about the dream of a girl affected by Agent Orange to perform in both Vietnam and Korea.

Information from the Youth Theatre on October 12 said that the theatre is working with Korean partners to stage this special musical. The project has just reached the stage of reading to introduce it to the public.

In Vietnam, the reading took place on the evening of October 11. In Korea, the reading (in Korean) took place in April at the Guri City Art Theater.

The musical is expected to premiere in Vietnam in 2026, and in Korea in 2027.

From the touching story of a girl infected with Agent Orange

The musical My Dream (English name: My dream ) is adapted from a stage script by author Nguyen Thi Thanh Thanh - winner of the children's script writing contest with the theme "Vietnam's story reaches the world" summarized in 2024.

My dream is about Linh - a poor girl born with a body that is not as healthy as her peers, making life a journey of constant struggle with difficulties, deprivation and loneliness.

But miracles always exist in adversity. Linh still keeps a small but intense flame within her, which is the dream of creating technology to help the disadvantaged in society, who have experienced so much pain and despair.

Not giving up, overcoming many difficulties and conflicts, Linh finally realized her dream.

According to the musical's production crew, My Dream is not only a touching story about a disadvantaged girl, but also a symbol for all those who have ever felt small, weak, or unworthy to dream.

Your story shows that dreams have no starting point and do not require perfection. What matters is whether we dare to keep it alive in our hearts and have the courage to pursue it every day.

To the author's own touching story

Mr. Um Dongyoul - Director of SangsangMaru Theater (Korea) - said that during the process of staging the musical, the two theaters set a goal of bringing touching stories to the audience.

Notably, the author of the musical's script is also a touching story of perseverance.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Thanh is a severely disabled person. She did not finish high school because of a sudden illness at the age of 15. Currently, she is unable to take care of herself, and needs her mother's help to do those things, but she has achieved quite a bit of success in her writing career.

In addition to the first prize in the children's script writing contest with the theme "Vietnam's stories reach the world", Thanh Thanh also received a special prize in the writing contest "Overcoming fate" organized by Thanh Nien magazine of the Central Youth Union in collaboration with the Academy of Journalism and Communication, and the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans of Vietnam.

Her work Rice and Beans won second prize in writing for children (2019), comic script category.

The work I am your friend won the third individual prize "Talented playwright", the project Be Friend Preventing School Violence organized by Good Neighbors International (GNI) in 2020...
