According to Forbes, the "Phantom Hacker" trick is causing thousands of people to lose money because hackers monitor bank logins and then drain their accounts. If before criminals lured people into installing spyware, now they take advantage of messaging applications like WhatsApp to attack directly.
They impersonate bank employees, asking users to share their screens to monitor sensitive information without installing anything additional. Meta has added a new warning on WhatsApp, reminding users to only share their screen with people they trust.
In addition to WhatsApp, fake SMS messages from banks or government agencies are also on the rise, the FBI said. Just by clicking on the phishing link, hackers can steal personal data, OTP codes and money in the account.
Experts recommend always checking information through the official application and never follow instructions in strange messages. The FBI emphasizes that any messages asking for personal information or links should be deleted immediately to avoid becoming the next victim.
