Hai Van Quan relic was built in 1826, is a military fortification guarding the top of Hai Van pass right on the border between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city today (formerly the border between Thua Thien and Quang Nam prefectures).
Hai Van Quan relic was ranked as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports andTourism in Decision No. 1531/QD-BVHTTDL dated April 14, 2017; located in two areas: Lang Co town (Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province) and Hoa Hiep Bac ward (Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city).
This is a relic with many historical and architectural values. The north side of Hai Van Quan gate facing Thua Thien-Hue has 3 words "Hai Van Quan", the south side facing Da Nang city has "Thien ha de nhat hung quan". This is not only an important defensive position of the southern gateway of Hue Citadel but also a very famous scenic spot of Vietnam .
After 3 years of restoration, the Project to Preserve, Restore and Promote the Value of Hai Van Quan Monument has been completed and officially opened to visitors. The restoration and completion of Hai Van Quan National Monument has a very important meaning, especially for promoting the value of the monument and heritage in the socio-economic development of the two provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang city.
According to the record, after being restored, the tourist attraction has a guide board and information about the relic in Vietnamese and English to serve visitors who want to learn about the history of the construction. At the main entrance, visitors can visit Hai Van Quan using a 3D digital map: just use a smartphone connected to the check-in board with an NFC chip (short-range wireless technology) at the tourist attraction, visitors can access 9 important locations of Hai Van Quan and explore according to their preferences.
To ensure the safety of people and tourists visiting and enjoying the most majestic pass, the management unit has installed many guide signs, fire prevention and fighting systems, signs indicating the way up and down the relic, and warning signs for people and tourists in areas with dangerous heights and slippery areas due to fog and rain.
According to a representative of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City, during the period when tickets are not sold, the units directly managing the relic are the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City. The Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien Hue Province and the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City perform the function of state management of the Hai Van Quan national relic according to regulations.
During the ticket sales phase (expected in 2025), the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District will implement the principle of rotating management for 3 years (the Hue Monuments Conservation Center will manage and exploit the monument for the first 3 years, and the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District will manage and exploit the monument for the next 3 years).
