Today, domestic coffee prices have dropped sharply, averaging VND2,000 to VND2,200 per kilogram, bringing the price down to around VND120,000 per kilogram. The main reason is that the world is experiencing an increase in coffee supply, especially in large countries like Brazil, where the new crop is expected to yield well. When supply is high, prices often fall, just like when there are too many vegetables in the market, sellers have to lower prices to compete. In addition, the stronger US dollar has also made it difficult for Vietnamese coffee, which is sold abroad in US dollars, to maintain high prices.
Despite falling prices, Vietnam remains the world’s leading coffee exporter. Since the beginning of 2025, the country has sold nearly 740,000 tons of coffee, earning $4.2 billion, up 56% from last year. This means that even though it sells less coffee, the higher prices still benefit farmers and businesses. Europe, especially Germany and Italy, buy a lot of Vietnamese coffee, accounting for nearly 40% of total exports.
Looking back at this week, coffee prices had a sharp increase, reaching around 123,200 to 123,900 VND/kg from May 26 to 28, due to many people worrying about coffee shortages. But today, prices have dropped sharply because the world market has also decreased and many people are selling coffee to take profit, just like when you sell vegetables early to ensure you have money. Coffee prices are forecasted to recover a bit tomorrow, but it is unlikely to increase sharply because people are waiting for more news about the crop in Brazil, demand from China, and negotiations on coffee export taxes.
For farmers, coffee prices on May 30, 2025 may still be low, but there is no need to worry too much. The coffee market is like the weather, sometimes sunny, sometimes rainy, but Vietnam is still a major “coffee granary” of the world. If you grow coffee or are interested in prices, continue to follow the news to know when prices may rise again.
