However, this model is also facing many difficulties and challenges that need to be solved soon.
Large consumer market

Huong Dat An Phu One Member Co., Ltd. (Pleiku City) is a pioneer in applying high technology to agricultural production and has been quite successful with the model "Clean from farm to table". Accordingly, the stages of land preparation, seed selection, planting, care, harvesting, preliminary processing, packaging... are all carried out in a closed process, with strict control.
Along with that, the Company has invested in building a hydroponic farming system on an area of 3,000 m² and built greenhouses on the entire production land area to create the best growing environment for crops, avoiding harmful pests.
At the same time, the Company has built a factory system, invested in modern vegetable and fruit processing technology, ensuring food hygiene and safety standards. In particular, the entire production area has been certified to meet VietGAP standards. Thanks to that, the Company's safe vegetable products are trusted and welcomed by the market in and outside the province.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Phong - Deputy Director of Huong Dat An Phu One Member Co., Ltd. - shared: "The market currently has a huge demand for clean and safe agricultural products. Besides supplying to the Central Highlands provinces, the Company's vegetable products are also present in many provinces and cities in the Central region such as: Hue, Da Nang , Binh Dinh...
On average, each month, we supply the market with about 600-700 tons of various vegetables to serve large supermarket systems such as: WinMart, Co.op Mart, Aeon Mall... and many collective kitchens in Pleiku City.

With a production process shaped towards organic, protecting the environment and consumer health, Musang King durian products of Sam Phat Ialy Farmstay (Chu Pah district) were awarded the "Asia- Pacific Sustainable Development Brand 2024" award.
Therefore, Sam Phat durian products are very popular in the market. In 2024, nearly 50 tons of Sam Phat durian were purchased by a company at a high price for export.
Mr. Nguyen Chat Sam - Owner of Sam Phat Ialy Farmstay - said: From the beginning, we determined that if we want to do sustainable agriculture, production must not only produce delicious products but also ensure the criteria of cleanliness, safety for consumers and harmony with nature. Therefore, we strictly control the process of taking care of the garden completely in an organic direction, both protecting the health of the producers and protecting the environment.
“Although there is still about a month until harvest time, many export companies have come to visit and expressed interest in signing contracts to purchase durian. However, this year’s output from the garden is expected to only reach about 70 tons. There are quite a few households growing durian in the area, but they are “doing their own thing”, unable to find a common voice to join together to produce according to standards to meet the needs of the export market,” Mr. Sam frankly admitted.
Many challenges
Gia Lai has a large, fertile land area and favorable climatic conditions for agricultural development. However, the province's agricultural sector has not yet developed commensurate with its potential and advantages. In particular, the agricultural production model "Clean from farm to table" has many advantages but is also facing many difficulties and challenges.
According to the Deputy Director of Huong Dat An Phu One Member Co., Ltd., the demand for safe vegetables is currently very large and there is still much room for growth. However, the connection between farmers and businesses to build large-scale raw material areas that are capable of supplying the market is facing difficulties. In addition, due to economic difficulties, people's tightening of spending also has a significant impact on the clean vegetable market because the selling price is always higher than that of traditional vegetables.
“The most important thing is to build a responsible production community, applying safe production processes, protecting the environment and consumer health. Each farmer participating in the production chain must have a growing area code, a traceability stamp and be responsible for their products. We will accompany and support farmers to produce according to clean processes, with cross-monitoring and ensuring stable output,” Mr. Phong proposed the solution.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Sam said: When participating in the production chain, households, cooperatives and enterprises need to have clear legal bindings. Each party must be responsible for the quality of the products they supply. Affixing traceability stamps, checking soil, and checking products before exporting are indispensable steps to ensure the overall reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products.
“Without specific constraints, just one poor quality product entering the market can cause the entire production area to lose its reputation. We must avoid the situation where one bad apple spoils the barrel,” Mr. Sam emphasized.
Mr. Vo Van Tan - Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Chu Pah District - informed: In recent years, the district has spent the budget to build models of growing melons, durians, coffee, etc. according to VietGAP standards for people to learn and apply. However, the models are only small-scale, without any connection to expand the scale of production as well as the consumption market, so they lack sustainability.
This is a difficult problem because most farmers in the area still produce in the traditional way, each doing their own thing, leading to unstable consumption of agricultural products, often facing the situation of good harvest but low prices. The district will continue to promote propaganda to change people's awareness as well as prioritize calling on potential businesses to be the "locomotive" to lead and build a sustainable chain of links.

Mr. Hoang Thi Tho - Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: Currently, the connection between enterprises and farmers is not sustainable; production models according to international, organic, green standards... are still limited. This leads to the unstable quality of fruit and vegetable products in regions and localities, not meeting the increasing demand of the market.
“The province will continue to promote propaganda and mobilize people, businesses, and cooperatives to produce according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards; build and replicate the agricultural production linkage model “Clean from farm to table”. At the same time, create conditions to call for potential investors to build processing plants, link, build, and expand raw material areas according to the value chain to increase the value of the province’s agricultural products,” Mr. Tho added.
Talking to reporters, Dr. Phan Viet Ha - Deputy Director in charge of the Central Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute - said: Vegetables and fruits are a relatively special product line compared to other agricultural products, highly seasonal, easily damaged and have high requirements for quality and food safety. Therefore, production scale and supply chain, standard farming process, post-harvest technology, market development are very necessary. Currently, Gia Lai is still producing on a small scale, the market is fragmented, the products still do not meet the standards and have high value to compete.
“Gia Lai should have a comprehensive project to develop the fruit and vegetable industry according to the model “Clean from farm to table” with orientations such as: Not mass production but identifying a few key products, with specific characteristics and high market potential to develop the Gia Lai fruit and vegetable brand. Investing in infrastructure for production and product transportation.
There are preferential credit policies for producers to invest in high-tech infrastructure. Transferring vegetable and fruit production processes according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards... synchronized from seeding, cultivation, plant protection, harvesting and post-harvest processing.
At the same time, develop the domestic and inter-provincial markets combined with value chains and logistics. Encourage businesses and supermarkets to combine deep processing to increase the added value of products" - Dr. Phan Viet Ha proposed the solution.
