Many universities adjust admission combinations

The 2025 high school graduation exam has more than 1.16 million candidates registered to attend, an increase of more than 90,000 students compared to 2024.

In this exam, candidates only have to take 2 compulsory subjects, literature and mathematics, and an optional test including 2 of the remaining subjects. With the optional test, candidates can only choose a maximum of 2 subjects.

Statistics on the number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam by subject of the Ministry of Education and Training show that math and literature are the two subjects with the highest registration, with 1,145,449 and 1,151,687 students, respectively. Social science subjects with many candidates are history (499,357 students) and geography (494,081 students). Notably, economic and legal education, a new subject under the 2018 General Education Program, has up to 247,248 candidates registered.

Meanwhile, for natural science subjects, in addition to physics, which has a large number of candidates registering, other subjects such as chemistry, especially biology, are chosen by very few candidates. Biology has only more than 72,000 students registered for the exam, while in 2024 it was more than 343,000 students - a decrease of 4.7 times. Information technology has 7,716 students registered for the exam, industrial technology 2,428 students and agricultural technology 21,962 students.

Up to now, many universities have announced their 2025 enrollment plans, including using quite "strange" combinations, such as enrolling in English language majors but considering combinations without English; enrolling in history pedagogy majors but not requiring history; enrolling in medicine majors but not including biology in the combination. Some schools enroll in physics and chemistry pedagogy majors using block D01, along with some combinations without physics or chemistry... However, many schools have now removed the above combinations from their enrollment plans.

Hoa Binh University (Hanoi) said it has adjusted the admission combination for health majors, including traditional medicine and medicine, including 5 combinations, of which 4 combinations include both math and biology: B00 (math, chemistry, biology), A02 (math, biology, physics), B03 (math, biology, literature), B08 (math, biology, English) and A00 (math, physics, chemistry). Previously, this school announced admission for pharmacy, nursing, traditional medicine and medicine majors with 5 combinations, including A01 (math, physics, English), C04 (literature, math, geography), D01 (math, literature, English).

Thai Nguyen University of Education also adjusted the university admission information for 2025. For the history pedagogy major, the school adjusted the main subject in all admission combinations. Previously, the school announced that the history pedagogy major had 4 admission combinations, of which 2 combinations did not include history: C20 (literature, geography, civic education) and D01 (math, literature, English)...
