After the historic flood, every area in Thai Nguyen was devastated, with schools littered with mud and rubbish. In the photo is the area in front of Gia Sang Kindergarten (Gia Sang Ward) after the water receded.
The water level at the school rose more than 3 meters at times, damaging the entire first floor facilities, including 9 classrooms and many teaching equipment.
Both inside and outside the school grounds were in disarray after the storm, and forces urgently joined hands to clean up.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Luc, Secretary of Gia Sang Ward Party Committee, said: During the recent flood, 7 schools in the ward were deeply flooded. Including Gia Sang Kindergarten; Gia Sang 915 Primary and Secondary School; 03 Cam Gia Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary Schools; Dong Van Kindergarten was flooded from 1.5m to 3.5m on the first floor. Flooding damaged desks, chairs, computers, equipment, and learning tools, with a preliminary estimate of about 7 billion VND in damage.
Storm No. 11 also left heavy damage at Nui Voi Kindergarten (Chua Hang Ward).
Many of the children's belongings were covered with mud.
Damage at the school included: 6 classrooms, the principal's office, the medical office , the school office, the council room and the kitchen were all deeply flooded and severely damaged. Many equipment were destroyed, including 3 55-inch TVs, 7 computers, 6 printers, a rice cooker, a refrigerator, and the office desks and chairs, and filing cabinets were completely destroyed.
The speaker system and archives were also... soaked in water and severely damaged. Students' belongings, toys, and books were flooded and unusable.
Chua Hang Kindergarten (Chua Hang Ward) is also one of the educational facilities heavily affected after storm No. 11. The entire school campus was submerged in floodwaters, many learning equipment, utensils, and children's toys were damaged...
Six classrooms, functional rooms and the school's outdoor playground were deeply flooded, covered with mud, and many equipment and school supplies were severely damaged.
Many appliances and equipment were severely damaged beyond repair and had to be discarded. Many schools in Thai Nguyen are focusing on overcoming the consequences of storms and floods to welcome students back to school, as early as next Monday.
