Commune officials in many mountainous areas are still concerned: Lack of light means lack of safety, lack of minimum living conditions and lack of development opportunities. Therefore, the installation of public lighting systems has become an urgent need, the desire of tens of thousands of households in the highlands.
To bring light to the villages, many localities have proactively mobilized social resources, choosing solar energy lighting solutions to reduce operating costs and to suit the terrain and climate conditions specific to the mountainous region. And from that effort, lighting projects have appeared one after another, lighting up new faith and hope.

8 km of bright road – joy exists in Chieng Sung
At the end of July 2025, Chieng Sung commune (Son La province) received an 8km long lighting project. This is the result of many months of social mobilization. 200 solar lights were installed along Provincial Road 110 and Yen Binh, Tan Lap, Phuong, Sai Luong villages, with a total cost of 370 million VND.
Party Secretary Nguyen Tuan Anh could not hide his joy: "With lighting, people can travel conveniently, security and order are ensured and the new rural criteria are gradually being completed."
That joy was further multiplied when this November, the commune continued to install 70 more solar-powered lampposts, bringing the total number of lamps lighting the whole commune to 296. People here say to each other: "The village is bright, the people are happy, the roads are safe", just a short sentence but enough to see the obvious change.
"Lighting up the border" - making the border more secure
In Cuc village, Ia O commune ( Gia Lai province), the road that used to be deserted and dark is now brightly lit after a week of construction of the "Lighting up the border" project. Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union, together with youth and people, installed 25 solar-powered lights, hung 20 national flags and erected 25 "I love my country" signs, creating a new look for the border area.
The representative of the Commune Youth Union emotionally shared: "We are grateful for the support of the Provincial Youth Union and accompanying units; we hope there will be more meaningful projects to help Ia O commune become brighter, greener, safer and more developed."
This is the second "Border Lighting" project in Gia Lai province, and its value goes beyond the meaning of lighting. The project contributes to improving people's lives, supporting border security and arousing patriotism at the Fatherland's border.

Gifts for people in difficult areas in Van Ban
Dark, deserted and winding, that is the road leading to Khe Chan 1 village, Van Ban commune ( Lao Cai province). The village has 125 households with 575 people, all of whom are Xa Pho (Phu La) ethnic people living scattered along the Chan and Nhu streams. Life in the highlands is already difficult due to the rugged terrain, and becomes even more harsh when night falls.
The two streams Chan and Nhu seem to be so gentle, but every rainy season they become fierce, making the people never stop feeling insecure. "The dark night makes you shiver, your spine is cold", the people often say.
To provide a safe support for the people here, Van Ban Commune Police coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune to deploy the "Security Light" project.
Speaking to the Government Electronic Newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Xuan Hiep, Head of Van Ban Commune Police, said: "The project includes 32 high-quality solar lights, lighting up about 1 km of road, of which 700 m belongs to Provincial Road 151 and 300 m of rural road. We hope to bring people more peace of mind and warmth in every step of the village."
After only 5 days of urgent construction, on November 13, 2025, the project was completed with a total cost of 80 million VND, contributed by two units and socialized sources. And from the first night, the lighting system was turned on, Khe Chan 1 seemed to put on a new coat, more brilliant, cozy and peaceful than ever.
"This is a project to welcome the 14th National Congress of the Party, and is also a gift we want to send to people in difficult areas," Lieutenant Colonel Hiep shared.

Light – the foundation for change in the highlands
The lighting projects in Son La, Gia Lai, Lao Cai and many other localities… not only illuminate the roads, but also illuminate people’s hearts. From children going to school at night without fear of falling; to the elderly walking with more peace of mind; or the authorities easily ensuring security; all show that light is the foundation of change.
Those small lights, even a solar bulb, are quietly contributing to lighting up faith in the highlands, in the most beautiful and humane way.
