Students of Tran Hung Dao Secondary School participate in the activity of exchanging trash for gifts.
Recently, the "Exchange trash for gifts" and "Exchange recycled products for gifts" festivals attracted hundreds of students to participate. Students brought books, newspapers, and old plastic bottles to exchange for dry leaves from the Organizing Committee. Each kilogram of recycled trash will be exchanged for 1 dry leaf. From these leaves, students will exchange for school supplies, daily necessities, toys, etc. according to their preferences. Ms. Nguyen Le Thu Thuan, Principal of Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, explained that using dry leaves as "tickets" to exchange for gifts is a creative way to help students clearly feel the value of green living, loving nature, and protecting the environment. Not only exchanging gifts, students are also instructed on how to classify and recycle trash right at the program, contributing to forming good habits in daily life.
It was a festival in a series of activities with the theme "Summer 2025 - green creativity - solid skills - sowing love" jointly organized by Tran Hung Dao Secondary School and Thoi Binh Ward Youth Union, aiming to create a meaningful summer playground for students. Another meaningful activity is that students will make their own household items, decorations, toys from recycled waste and bring them to exchange for notebooks, books, school supplies, toys... Many recycled products such as pencil boxes from plastic bottles, models, art paintings, vases... are very eye-catching, demonstrating the ingenuity of students. Pham Nguyen Tung Duong, a student of the school, introduced that he used cardboard and beads from old clothes to make a "crown" to bring to the program. Making the product himself, Tung Duong happily shared that, from seemingly discarded items, with just a little idea and manipulation, they will become very useful items.
Ms. Nguyen Le Thu Thuan, Principal of Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, said: The activities are first of all to create a fun and safe playground for the children, then to train them in skills and raise their awareness of environmental protection. In particular, the children will participate in activities to share love and sow seeds of kindness. For example, the bustling and loving space in the campus of Tran Hung Dao Secondary School during the summer days, where school supplies, rice, etc. are donated to students in difficult circumstances with the motto "Send love". Many bags of rice, necessities, clothes, shoes, leather bags, etc., along with many textbooks have been brought to "send love". The program not only attracts students but also parents and benefactors who enthusiastically contribute, because everyone feels the meaning of the program. According to the school's Board of Directors, the donated gifts will be accumulated by the school and distributed to students in need at the beginning of the new school year, not only in the school but also in other localities, if the number of donations is large. With old textbooks, the school's teachers will collect and classify them to give to students. Ly Kim Nguyen, a student of the school, said: "The summer activities at school are very meaningful. Through them, teachers teach us many lessons about community living and the spirit of compassion."
During the summer, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School also cooperated with Thoi Binh Ward Youth Union to organize many practical skills classes for students. The school took advantage of the teacher resources of the PhysicalEducation professional group to open badminton and swimming classes (in coordination with Huy Hoang Swimming Management and Teaching Center); and together with the Ward Youth Union, implemented martial arts classes to help students practice their health and self-defense skills. In addition, MindX classes attracted a large number of students to participate, helping them get acquainted with digital technology, programming, logical thinking and entrepreneurship in the digital age. Or the communication skills class, applying artificial intelligence in school of the Ifa center also helped students gain more skills in behavior, communication, and approaching technology. Notably, all activities this summer were organized by Tran Hung Dao Secondary School and Thoi Binh Ward Youth Union in the form of socialization.
During the summer, many parents have a headache when they do not know where to take their children, what to play, what skills to learn, while they themselves are busy with work. The image of students on summer vacation making friends with phones and televisions is no longer strange. But for students of Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, they will experience a rather "busy" summer, in joy, solidarity and full of life lessons.
