Technological innovations not only accelerate research and production but also lay the foundation for improving disease prevention effectiveness, ensuring safety, and providing equitable access for the community.

In Vietnam, the National Institute for Vaccine and Biological Products Testing (NICVB) – the national focal point for testing, evaluating, and monitoring vaccine quality – plays a key role in this process. With the mission of ensuring that all vaccines meet safety, efficacy, and stability standards before being put into use, NICVB aims to instill confidence in the community and the public regarding the quality of vaccines and biological products from manufacturers, thereby fostering confidence in proactive disease prevention.

To share technological advancements and affirm Vietnam's role in the global health network, NICVB organized the scientific conference "Application of Vaccine Production Technology – Enhancing Disease Prevention Effectiveness" in Ninh Binh on December 11, 2025. The event brought together medical experts, scientists, businesses, and regulatory agencies to exchange ideas on the development trends of next-generation vaccine technology and solutions for ensuring sustainable quality.

Next-generation vaccine technology – a breakthrough in preventive medicine.

Vaccines have always been considered one of humanity's greatest scientific achievements. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that traditional manufacturing technologies are no longer fast enough to respond to global health threats. The advent of mRNA vaccines marked a major turning point: within just a few months of decoding the viral gene, scientists were able to develop an effective, safe, and flexible vaccine capable of adapting to new variants.

Building on that success, mRNA technology is being researched for expansion into many other diseases such as seasonal influenza, RSV, cancer, and malaria. Simultaneously, other advanced platforms such as recombinant proteins, viral vectors, next-generation adjuvants, and continuous production lines are also helping to streamline vaccine production, improve quality control, and reduce costs.

Key topics at the Conference

The scientific conference " Application of Vaccine Production Technology – Enhancing Disease Prevention Effectiveness " is a national-scale scientific forum, and also an opportunity for scientists to share experiences and affirm their position in the field of vaccine testing, production, and application technology.

The Director of NICVB delivered the opening remarks at the scientific conference.

The event featured the participation and professional contributions of medical experts from research institutes such as the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City; the National Children's Hospital; domestic vaccine manufacturers such as IVAC, POLYVAC, VABIOTECH; foreign vaccine manufacturers such as MSD, Sanofi-Aventis, AstraZeneca, GSK, Pfizer; and representatives from Departments of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention nationwide.

"Advanced technology – Effective vaccines – Healthy communities" – the central message of the Conference – is also the strategic direction that NICVB and the Vietnamese health sector are steadfastly pursuing, so that every technological advancement brings practical benefits to life.

To conclude the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hung – Chairman of VABIOTECH Company, representing the Presidium – summarized the five main thematic contents of the Conference, including:

- The epidemiological situation and burden of infectious diseases in Vietnam (due to pneumococcal bacteria, RSV, influenza virus, dengue fever virus, etc.) and solutions for creating sustainable immunity through vaccination;

- Global and domestic trends in shifting testing and verification from in vivo to in vitro ;

- Detecting immune gaps prior to actual outbreaks;

- The role of adjuvants in vaccine formulations – Advanced technology in adult vaccination (especially for the elderly);

- An overview of mRNA technology in cancer vaccine production: potential and challenges.

On behalf of the NICVB leadership, Dr. Ngo Phi Phuong, Director of the Institute, thanked the presenters for their research investment and for bringing to the Conference high-quality scientific presentations, updating new technologies and the most advanced vaccine production trends currently available. NICVB is committed to continuing to cooperate with domestic and international vaccine and medical biological product manufacturers, improving quality control to meet continuous technological advancements and facilitating the product registration process, giving Vietnamese people more opportunities to access effective disease prevention measures. The Institute hopes to continue receiving the support of domestic and international manufacturers, regulatory agencies, and distinguished delegates to organize similar scientific events in the coming years.

The workshop was a great success, contributing to strengthening the close cooperative relationship between the National Institute for Vaccine and Biological Products Testing and the participating units. This event not only provided important professional knowledge but also affirmed a shared commitment to ensuring the quality of vaccines and biological products, thereby making a positive contribution to the sustainable development of the vaccine and biological products industry and public health protection in Vietnam.
