On December 15th, the Ha Tinh CDC working group supervised disease prevention and control efforts at the Cau Treo International Border Gate and areas near the border and border gate.

Closely monitor people entering the area.
According to reports from international health quarantine forces, an average of 400-500 people enter Vietnam daily through the Cau Treo International Border Gate. Following the outbreak of polio in Laos, international health quarantine forces have intensified monitoring of people entering Vietnam in recent days. Before entering through the border gate, people will have their temperature checked and fill out a health declaration form to receive timely advice.

Professionals advise people on measures to prevent and control the disease.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of the Ha Tinh CDC, said that polio outbreaks in Laos, including cases of genetically modified viruses, require quarantine forces at border gates to coordinate with other forces to closely monitor people entering the area in order to promptly detect suspected cases.

We are in contact with the quarantine authorities of Laos to coordinate efforts in disease prevention and control.
At the same time, citizens traveling from or through Laos who enter the area should proactively take measures to prevent and control the epidemic, especially monitoring their health; if they experience any unusual symptoms, they should go to medical facilities for timely advice.

The working group monitors epidemic prevention and control at Tay Son Health Station.
For health stations located near border crossings – areas with high traffic between the two countries, such as Tay Son Health Station, Son Kim 1 Health Station, Son Kim 2 Health Station, Son Tay Health Station, Son Hong Health Station, etc. – it is necessary to strengthen community surveillance to promptly detect the risk of polio and other infectious diseases entering the country. Proactive communication efforts should be undertaken to raise public awareness of disease prevention and control, especially regarding adherence to vaccination recommendations from the health sector.
Polio is an acute viral infection transmitted through the digestive tract by Poliovirus, with the potential to spread rapidly into an epidemic. Sources of transmission include both patients with all clinical forms and healthy carriers of the virus; they excrete large amounts of Poliovirus in their feces, contaminating water and food sources.
After entering the body, the virus multiplies in the lymph nodes; a small percentage may enter the central nervous system, damaging the anterior horn cells of the spinal cord and motor neurons, leading to acute flaccid paralysis syndrome.
