Up to now, in Lam Dong province, the situation of people migrating freely has been basically controlled. Thousands of households have settled down and found jobs. Electricity, roads, schools, stations... have been invested in and built spaciously. Life is stable, the rural areas in remote areas are changing and improving day by day.

Previously, many households migrated freely, mostly ethnic minorities from the northern mountainous region, the North Central region and some neighboring provinces to Lam Dong without following the planning. This has put great pressure on local authorities in population management. Lam Dong has set a key goal: Fundamentally resolve the above situation, stabilize social security, protect forests and create conditions for people to develop sustainably. In the period of 2021-2025, Lam Dong province has arranged and stabilized 6,336 households with nearly 30,000 people. Of which, Lam Dong province (old) has arranged 438 households/1,752 people, and most of them are concentrated in Tuy Duc, Dak Glong, Dak Song areas of Dak Nong province (old) with 5,898 households/27,428 people.

Head of the Lam Dong Province Rural Development Department Nguyen Duy Hoang said that currently, the whole province still has 3,614 households with 15,917 people who have not been settled. Of which, Dak Nong (old) has the largest number with 3,002 households/13,402 people, Binh Thuan province (old) has 310 households/1,271 people and Lam Dong (old) has 302 households/1,442 people. In the next phase, stabilizing the lives of spontaneous migrants is identified by the province as a key task, with a specific plan to gradually solve the problem fundamentally and sustainably.

Mr. Vang A Chu left Dien Bien province and came to Quang Tan commune to start a business more than 10 years ago. When he arrived in Quang Tan, he had to stay at an acquaintance's house to work for a living. After that, he bought 0.5 hectares of land for cultivation. When he bought it, because he did not know the origin of the land was encroachment on forestry land, and because he did not register for temporary residence or temporary absence as prescribed, life was very difficult. By 2024, the government considered and arranged for him to be resettled under the project to stabilize spontaneous migrants in Quang Tan. Thanks to that, his family's life gradually stabilized.

Mr. Chu emotionally shared: “Thanks to the Party and State's attention and resettlement arrangements, I and thousands of households of spontaneous migrants now have solid houses, land for production, and registered households. Electricity lights up every house, children can go to school, receive medical examination and treatment with health insurance... No need to worry like before!”. In the resettlement areas of Lam Dong province, the grassroots government system has been improved, people have a place to live in the community, and have access to commercial, medical, and cultural services, so everyone is assured.

After a period of resettlement, many households not only escaped poverty but also rose up and had a better life. However, to fundamentally solve the problem of spontaneous migration is a long way to go with many difficulties. Currently, some projects are behind schedule, infrastructure is not synchronized, many households still do not have enough land for production...

Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Son Commune, Doan Van Phuong, said that the current concern is that new spontaneous migrants are showing signs of appearing in places where many valuable agricultural products such as pepper and coffee are grown. If not strictly controlled, this wave will increase. Currently, Quang Son has seen the emergence of a number of new households of spontaneous migrants from Dien Bien. The commune has proposed that the functional departments of Lam Dong province coordinate with Dien Bien province to communicate, persuade and bring people back to their old places of residence.

In the period of 2021-2025, Lam Dong has implemented 12 residential resettlement projects, with an investment of nearly 245 billion VND. Up to now, nine projects have been completed with convenient traffic routes, schools, medical stations, spacious cultural houses, etc. The remaining projects are continuing to be invested and completed to resettle people as soon as possible. It is expected that in the period of 2026-2030, the province will implement 19 new projects with a total cost of more than 1,100 billion VND. In addition to resettlement, the project will focus on investing in essential infrastructure such as roads, irrigation, electricity, water, and production support so that people can feel secure in their new lives.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, in the period of 2026-2030, the task is to stabilize the lives of the remaining households. Each household needs residential land, cultivated land, and basic infrastructure to promote trade of goods. At the same time, functional units must strictly control new migration flows. Along with that, the province focuses on supporting livelihoods, encouraging people to produce goods, linked to the market; forming cooperatives to help people link production; promoting the role of agricultural extension, attracting businesses to accompany farmers.

Lam Dong is making efforts every day to improve the quality of social services so that all children can go to school, people can receive health care, and enjoy social security. The locality is focusing on vocational training, expanding non-agricultural employment for young people, promoting economic development, and contributing to stabilizing political and social security in the locality.
