Khuan Bang village with Tay people's stilt houses

About 3 km from the commune center, passing through the green forest, the clear and simple Khuan Bang appears before your eyes. The sturdy stilt houses in the middle of the green forest, the peaceful and prosperous scene appears in the eyes and smiles of the people here. According to the oldest people here, Khuan Bang village has existed for more than 400 years and at that time only the Tay people lived there. Over time, Khuan Bang has grown more and more, now there are more than 60 households, of which 95% are Tay ethnic people. Right next to the clean concrete road is the wooden stilt house of Mr. Duong Van Tien's family. Mr. Tien was born in 1970, and grew up next to the fire of the stilt house since he was a child. In his memory, in the past, Khuan Bang village was not as crowded as it is now, the stilt houses were also far apart, each house was very crowded. The old stilt house of Mr. Tien's family is hundreds of years old, and has been home to and sheltered four generations of more than a dozen people. According to Mr. Tien, since he was born, the entire Khuan Bang has been a stilt house...

Pursuant to Resolution No. 16/2023/NQ-HDND dated October 23, 2023 of the People's Council of Bac Kan province on policies to support tourism development in the province, Khuan Bang village, Nhu Co commune was selected to implement the community tourism village model. Along with taking advantage of the province's support policies, the village is making efforts to promote its strengths in natural landscapes and ethnic identity to attract tourists.

Head of the Front Committee of Khuân Bang village, Ma Thi Chien, said that with the advantages of geography, nature, and long-standing traditional culture, Khuân Bang village is being supported to invest in many items to develop community tourism. Currently, the people of Khuân Bang village are still working hard every day to join hands to build a new countryside, a cultural village, and develop the forest economy ; at the same time, increase solidarity and agree to work together to build the village to be increasingly green, clean, beautiful, and imbued with traditional cultural identity so that one day in the near future, it will welcome a large number of tourists to visit and experience community tourism.

A stilt house is being built to serve the accommodation of tourists.

In the context of increasingly modern life, the villagers still preserve the beauty of the traditional stilt houses typical of the Tay ethnic group, creating a special impression for visitors from all over the world when coming here. Along with more than 40 stilt houses imbued with the Tay ethnic identity, Khuan Bang village also brings a special impression to visitors about the majestic natural landscape. With a natural land area of ​​more than 200 hectares, Khuan Bang is like a peaceful valley in the middle of the mountains and forests. In addition to the peaceful scenery, this place also has a system of surrounding lakes such as Tam Kha lake, Khe Cup waterfall, Nam Tac hill, Tham Hon cave... promising to be an interesting destination for an experiential tour. Sitting by the warm fire, grilling sticky rice cakes, bamboo rice, enjoying sausages hanging from the kitchen, it seems that all the noise and fatigue are left out there...

Mr. Luong Van Chan, now over 80 years old, was born and raised in Khuan Bang. The stilt house of Mr. Chan's family has just been renovated to be sturdy, large and spacious. Sipping a cup of green tea, Mr. Chan mused: "In addition to the old stilt houses, we also preserve the traditional cultural identity of the nation such as festivals, costumes, Then singing, Tinh lute, bowl dancing... Now that we are supported to do community tourism, develop the economy in our homeland, and promote our identity, everyone is happy, everyone supports. Like my family now basically has enough conditions to be able to welcome tourists."

Khuan Bang established Then singing and Tinh lute clubs to preserve national cultural identity to develop tourism.

To realize Resolution No. 16/2023/NQ-HDND dated October 23, 2023 of the People's Council of Bac Kan province, Cho Moi District Party Committee issued Directive No. 12-CT/HU dated February 28, 2024 on strengthening leadership in building Khuan Bang village tourist attractions. Integrated with the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, accordingly, Khuan Bang village is invested in consulting support on space, landscape, products and tourism methods; support for training, fostering and developing human resources; support for promotion and advertising; investment in facilities including welcome gates, installation of tourist signs, support for construction and expansion of souvenir display points for tourists in 2024 with a total cost of more than 500 million VND.

Along with that, the authorities of Nhu Co commune are focusing on promoting propaganda work, guiding people to promote local strengths such as tea planting and aquaculture. The commune also opens training courses to develop traditional products for people such as hand weaving, then singing, tinh lute, cooking, organizing groups to visit and learn about neighboring community tourism models...

Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhu Co Commune, Luu Khanh Toan, added that currently, the village has 55 beautifully designed stilt houses, harmoniously combining traditional and modern features, suitable for homestay exploitation. The village has established a village tourism management board.

To support the development of tourism products associated with the preservation and promotion of national cultural values, for households registering to build homestays, the province supports 100% of bank loan interest rates, with a maximum loan of 500 million VND/house. The stilt houses are exploited to make accommodations for guests to rest, exchange cuisine or participate in cultural and artistic activities with local people such as Then singing, bamboo dancing, tea roasting, foot soaking, wine making, etc.

With the consensus and active participation of the people, along with support in terms of facilities and resources, Khuan Bang village will soon become an attractive tourist destination, contributing to improving the lives and sustainable economic development of local people./.
