The attack began at around 5:00 p.m. local time in Khiri Rat Nikhom district of Surat Thani province, about 600 km south of Bangkok.
"Four people are dead," local police chief Kriangkrai Kraikaew told AFP, but he declined to give further details.
Local media reported that the shooting occurred near the home of a former village chief.
Thailand has high rates of gun ownership and has seen a spate of violence over the past 12 months, including one of the deadliest attacks in its history.
In October 2022, Thailand was shocked by the murder of 36 people, including 24 children, by a former police sergeant in the northeastern province of Nong Bua Lam Phu.
Last March, three people were killed and three others injured in a shooting spree in Phetchaburi province that lasted 15 hours.
