Real Crossbow: The Weapon That Defeated 500,000 Qin Troops

Researchers reveal the secret of the magic crossbow – the super weapon that caused the Qin empire to collapse, putting an end to its ambition to invade the South.

The legend of An Duong Vuong's magic crossbow, which shot ten thousand arrows at once and destroyed ten thousand invaders, has been deeply ingrained in the minds of many generations of Vietnamese people. But what if it is not just a legend, but a great historical truth, a superior military technology secret that helped our ancestors win the most important victory in the history of nation building, directly causing a powerful empire like the Qin Dynasty to decline?

Based on archaeological evidence, historical documents and modern weapons science research, Senior Lieutenant General, Academician, Doctor, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Huy Hieu and weapons expert, engineer Vu Dinh Thanh have put forward a theory, calling for the restoration of the truth to history: The magic crossbow is real, and the victory of the Vietnamese people against 500,000 Qin troops was the direct cause leading to the collapse of the Qin empire.

Crossbow, a real super weapon and a timeless damage mechanism

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu said that our country is on the path of strong development, entering the "era of rising up", this is the golden opportunity for us to conduct historical research independently and autonomously. We can confidently present all scientific evidence for the public to consider, evaluate and find the truth.

Now, our mission is to return history to our ancestors, including courageously speaking up and proving the truth: Van Lang/Au Lac defeated 500,000 Qin troops, shot dead the commander Do Thu, and Trieu Da never invaded Au Lac.

The key point of this theory lies in the decoding of the magic crossbow. General Hieu said that archaeologists have discovered tens of thousands of bronze arrows dating back to the Van Lang / Au Lac era, also known as Co Loa bronze arrows. In particular, in the inner citadel of Co Loa, we found a large-scale bronze arrow casting workshop dating back to the Van Lang and Au Lac era, nearly 1,000 m2, still intact.

“Weapons expert of the Russian anti-aircraft missile manufacturing corporation Vu Dinh Thanh affirmed that this is evidence that Trieu Da or any foreign force has never invaded Au Lac. I completely agree and think that anyone, with just a little reasoning, will see that this opinion is completely correct. Because any hostile force to Au Lac, when occupying the Au Lac Co Loa capital, must immediately occupy or destroy the weapons factory and weapons, that is, tens of thousands of Co Loa bronze arrows,” General Hieu analyzed.

General Hieu said that engineer Vu Dinh Thanh had discovered the unique mechanism of the crossbow, which could shoot tens of thousands of Co Loa bronze arrows at the same time. But more importantly, engineer Thanh had discovered the terrifying mechanism of this weapon, an extremely important archaeological evidence.

The crossbow uses the same principle of damage as the flechette dropped from an aircraft in World War I or the American nail-laying cannon in the Vietnam War. Photo: NVCC.

Accordingly, the magic crossbow did not shoot directly at the enemy but fired a beam of tens of thousands of Co Loa bronze arrows high and far away. Under the influence of gravity, these tens of thousands of arrows would plunge down at an increasing speed, while rotating around its axis due to its special aerodynamic structure. The closer to the ground, the stronger the speed and rotation force, creating a terrible penetrating force that could penetrate all types of iron armor at that time, even piercing many soldiers.

This principle was used by the US military in the Vietnam War with extremely dangerous weapons such as nail-spreading cannons (flare cannons) and "Lazy Dog" cluster bombs. A flare cannon can scatter 8,000 iron nails, or the "old lady" L-19 plane scattered tens of thousands of tiny "Lazy Dog" bombs. Before that, in World War I, primitive planes scattered steel "flechette" arrows according to the same principle.

“The US empire has used the crossbow principle in extremely dangerous weapons. Our ancestors were more than 2,300 years ahead of humanity in applying physics to weapons of mass destruction,” said General Hieu.

Engineer Vu Dinh Thanh said that he discovered the mechanism for shooting Co Loa bronze arrows from observing the image of archers on the Ngoc Lu bronze drum. When shooting Co Loa arrows, they used their feet to hold the shaft of the arrow. Thus, since the time of King Hung, the Vietnamese people had the technology to shoot Co Loa bronze arrows. The archers who shot Co Loa bronze arrows must have been very important people because if they could shoot one Co Loa bronze arrow, they must have known the principle of the magic crossbow that could shoot ten thousand arrows.

Meanwhile, the Trieu Dynasty tombs do not have the crossbow, nor the Co Loa bronze arrows. Chinese scientists also do not know the crossbow shooting technology. That proves that the Trieu Dynasty never had any aggressive actions against Au Lac, never captured archers alive like on the Ngoc Lu bronze drum, let alone conquering Co Loa citadel or dominating Au Lac.

In particular, engineer Thanh emphasized that the ten thousand arrows, because they were made of bronze, when they fell, had a more beautiful visual effect than today's flechette or cannons / nail spreaders. This is the image recorded in history books with the beautiful name: Golden Light Spirit Claw Crossbow.

More importantly, the world’s leading weapons experts agree that the loss of a superweapon is often evidence that its owner never lost the battle. If he had lost, the weapon’s secrets would have been seized and disseminated by the victor.

“The loss of the crossbow and bronze arrows of Co Loa, along with all the above evidence, shows that the King and generals of Au Lac were never captured alive,” engineer Vu Dinh Thanh affirmed.

Turning back the pages of Qin - Han history: Who caused the empire to collapse?

From careful research of the original and translation of Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian and the book Huainanzi, Senior General Nguyen Huy Hieu and engineer Vu Dinh Thanh pointed out that the most authoritative Chinese history books written during the same period confirmed the disastrous defeat of the Qin army. This is very important.

Specifically, the book Hoai Nam Tu, volume 18, chapter "Nhan Gian Huan" wrote: "The Qin Dynasty fell, why? The reason was because they were greedy for benefits such as rhinoceros horn, ivory, jade, pearls, so they ordered the military governor Da Do Thu to bring 500,000 troops, divided into 5 groups to invade (Viet)... For three years, the army did not take off their armor, always had to carry crossbows... The Viet people went into the jungle to live with wild animals, refusing to let the Qin army take them as prisoners. They selected talented and brave people to be their generals, and every night they attacked the Qin army, achieving great victories, killing the military governor Da Do Thu, and hundreds of thousands of Qin soldiers died".

The Records of the Grand Historian, Sima Qian, in the section of the Pingjin Marquis Zhufu's Biography, wrote: “He (Qin Shihuang) also ordered Wei Tuo Sui (Tu Shu) to lead troops on boat towers to attack the Viet people in the south, and ordered Jianlu to dig a canal to transport food deep into the Viet River, and the Viet people fled. The battle lasted a long time, food supplies were exhausted, and the Viet army attacked and defeated the Qin army. At that time, the Qin state was in conflict with the Hu state in the north and the Viet state in the south. It had to station troops in a useless place and could not retreat. For more than ten years, men wore armor, women carried goods, and were so miserable that they did not want to live, they hung themselves on trees by the roadside, and people died everywhere. When the Qin Emperor died, the world rose up in rebellion.”

Based on documents from two major historical books and clear archaeological evidence, Senior Lieutenant General, Academician, Doctor, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Huy Hieu and engineer Thanh came to important conclusions:

During the reign of Qin Shi Huang, 500,000 Qin troops were sent to the South to invade and assimilate the lands of the Vietnamese. The Qin troops once occupied the Guangdong and Guangxi regions, which were the lands of the ancient Vietnamese, and brought tens of thousands of Qin women to live with the garrison soldiers to promote the process of ethnic assimilation. However, when they entered the territory of Van Lang/Au Lac, the Qin troops suffered a disastrous defeat.

One army landed in the Tien Du mountains and was ambushed by the Au Lac army using magic crossbows, killing tens of thousands of Qin soldiers. The second army advanced through Cao Bang and was also defeated by guerrilla tactics and Vietnamese archers using Co Loa bronze arrows from high positions, causing many ancient documents to record that arrows pierced dozens of Qin soldiers.

The heavy defeat in this campaign is considered the direct cause leading to the decline of the Qin Dynasty, something that Chinese official history has repeatedly acknowledged.

Returning the truth to history, the mission of independent historiography

From that painful lesson, according to General Hieu and engineer Thanh, the Chinese dynasties later no longer intended to occupy the land of Van Lang/Au Lac for a long time, as Liu An wrote in the book Hoai Nam Tu: “Traveling thousands of miles, there are also deep forests and dense bamboo, many poisonous snakes and wild animals, in the summer months and dry seasons, diseases such as cholera or chaos always break out, although we have never fought with swords, there are already many deaths... Now, sending troops into their land, they will be afraid, hiding in the mountains and forests; if we retreat, they will gather again, if we stay to guard, then year after year, the soldiers will be tired, food will be scarce, one side will have urgent matters, and all four sides will be afraid. I am afraid that changes will arise, evil will arise, all of which start from there”.

Research on decoding Vietnamese genes by VinBigData Institute (Vingroup) also shows that Vietnamese people are not mixed with Han people, affirming that assimilation by force is unsuccessful.

Many reputable Chinese historical books such as Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian affirm that Trieu Da, the founder of Nam Viet after the Qin Dynasty, did not invade Van Lang/Au Lac, but maintained a peaceful attitude because he understood the military strength of the Vietnamese people. However, hundreds of years later, some Chinese historians deliberately attributed the victory of the Vietnamese people to internal conflicts between the Qin army and the Nam Viet army. In reality, the enemy never touched the magic crossbow, this only exists in legends.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu said that it was the guerrilla tactics, indomitable spirit and especially superior weapons such as the crossbow and the Co Loa bronze arrow, which had an optimal aerodynamic structure to fall gradually, spin around the axis and increase damage when shot from above, that helped the ancient Vietnamese defeat the most skilled army in the North.

This victory not only protects the race but also defeats all assimilation plots, contributing to preserving national identity. History must be objective, honest and scientific.

“History must be objective and honest, unclear issues must be clarified by scientific conferences, our country's history must be protected. I propose that the state and relevant agencies review and confirm, and include it in textbooks so that the children of the whole country know: Van Lang/Au Lac was never occupied by Trieu Da because it had a super weapon, the magic crossbow, which could shoot ten thousand bronze arrows and kill ten thousand enemies. The magic crossbow of the Vietnamese defeated 500,000 Qin troops, causing the Qin dynasty to decline and maintaining national independence for the Vietnamese people,” Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu stated his opinion.
