At this time, people in Kim Thanh commune are harvesting the Chinese yam (a type of yam that is planted about 3 months earlier than the main crop to meet the year-end market demand). The whole commune currently has 75 hectares of Chinese yam that have begun to be harvested, with a yield of 2,000 - 2,500 kg/sao. Meanwhile, 226 hectares of main-season yam are expected to be harvested from January 2026.
Because of early planting, the quality of the morning glory tubers is not as good as the main crop, the tubers are smaller and less sweet. However, the selling price is high because the market is in short supply, traders buy at the field for about 12,000 VND/kg, and retail can reach 15,000 VND/kg.
Many households that directly harvest and sell in retail said that they consume 2-3 quintals of jicama every day; on weekends, when demand increases sharply, sales can reach 5 quintals. With the current price, Kim Thanh farmers have a good income, covering investment costs and making a profit right from the beginning of the season.
The winter-spring bean crop is opening a new and promising production season, helping farmers have a stable income before entering the main harvest in early 2026.
