Hanoi female student admitted to top university in Asia: "I idolize the band TFBoys"

(Dan Tri) - Khanh Linh said that being a fan of Chinese music groups helps the female student have more motivation to learn foreign languages.

Nguyen Khanh Linh (born 2005, Hanoi ) has just graduated from the Chinese language class at the Foreign Language High School. In August, she will officially enroll in Tsinghua University, China.

According to Times Higher Education magazine, this is the top 1 university in Asia and in the top 16 in the world in 2023.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Khanh Linh said that before enrolling, she was invited to be a speaker at a career orientation summer camp. There, the female student shared her experiences in building a profile to apply to universities.

Learn Chinese since grade 9

Previously, Khanh Linh received scholarships from several schools in the US for 4 years of study. However, she still decided to pursue her dream of entering Tsinghua University.

"First, the advantage of Chinese language made me immediately think of studying in the country of a billion people. This school is among the top in the world, so it will be the best launching pad for me. Moreover, when I go there to study, it won't take me much time to get used to it because the culture is not too different.

Choosing to study in China helps me adapt gradually. After that, I will go to a Western school for a master's degree to learn the most advanced things," Khanh Linh expressed.

Linh feels lucky that her parents always accompany and support her in every decision. Her confidence is also passed on from her parents. That is one of the reasons that helped the 18-year-old female student get accepted to the school known as "Asia's Harvard".

"I don't have many secrets. But I know that being calm and showing confidence are important factors," Linh said.

Like her peers, Khanh Linh also loves music groups and collects related items. Her idol is the band TFBoys. This is also one of the reasons why she decided to learn Chinese since grade 9 and has persistently pursued it until now.

TFBoys is a famous teenage idol group in China. The group has 3 members, including Wang Junkai, Wang Yuan and Yi Yangqianxi. In addition to their talent, they also impress with their "impressive" academic achievements.

The female student from Hanoi said that if she has the chance, she will go meet her idol in the future.

"Don't hesitate because 18 years old is very valuable"

The journey to prepare documents to apply to a top university in Asia is not easy. English is one of the big challenges, because Khanh Linh majored in Chinese. She said that the grammar of these two languages ​​is completely opposite, and correct pronunciation is very difficult.

Furthermore, Tsinghua University has high requirements for professional knowledge. Linh enrolled in Economics. Before applying, she spent a lot of time taking classes to gain knowledge. She also worked at her family's company to gain experience.

The time to prepare the documents overlapped with her high school studies. Therefore, she had to arrange her schedule so as not to affect the process of acquiring knowledge. Many days, Linh had to stay up late to write her essay.

Ms. Hoang Lan Chi - Chinese teacher, University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi - is the person who guided Linh to submit her application. She helped Linh find information and how to apply to Tsinghua University.

When writing her essay, Linh did not focus on her achievements. She focused on explaining why she pursued Economics and her future direction. She shared about her actual work process at her family's company.

Leadership skills, customer communication and crisis management are mentioned by the female student. Thanks to her parents, she learned how to talk tactfully with partners. She also translated many contracts and participated in networking events .

The 18-year-old female student gave advice: "The most important thing that students often overlook is showing why the school needs them. What they will bring to the school, not how they fit in.

Don't hesitate because 18 is a precious age. Applying to universities is almost a once in a lifetime experience, so show your best."

Normally, most Vietnamese students at this school pursue master's and doctoral degrees. Linh started with a bachelor's degree. Therefore, she could not help but feel pressured.

"I haven't been in contact with it yet so I don't know anything about Thanh Hoa's curriculum. But I often hear seniors say that the curriculum is very difficult," Linh said.

Khanh Linh is not afraid of independence when she is about to leave her family to study in another country. However, she needs to be mentally prepared to face new things.

Currently, she is preparing her personal belongings to wait for the day of boarding the plane. She will stay in the school dormitory.

In the future, Khanh Linh hopes to develop the communications sector for her family company.
