Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên05/12/2023

imgFemale construction worker and the In mid-2018, Pham Thi Huyen Trang (in Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam ) had to run around and borrow money everywhere to pay for the hospital fees for her parents and younger sister's surgeries. At this time, the 17-year-old female student studying in grade 11 at Pham Phu Thu High School (Dien Ban Town) was burdened with a huge debt. Every day, Trang worked hard as a construction worker at construction sites, struggling with piles of garbage taller than her head... to earn money. However, despite working hard, the money Trang earned was not enough to pay for her mother's medicine. Her mother's excruciating pain in the middle of the night left Trang's whole family helpless, only able to hug each other and cry. Pham Thi Huyen Trang, a very good student, planned to drop out of school to have more time to take care of her parents and sick sister. The girl planned to "drift" to the South to find a job, maybe she would earn more money to send back home...

The story about Trang's determination and filial piety posted on Thanh Nien Online Newspaper moved many people to tears. Many readers and philanthropists contacted Thanh Nien Newspaper hoping to support and share the difficulties so that Trang would not have to do hard work and did not want Trang to drop out of school. Immediately after that, Trang was secretly chosen as the main character of the program "Touching the Dream No. 14" by Thanh Nien Online and the journey of "touching the dream" of the 17-year-old girl began...

In mid-2018, female student Pham Thi Huyen Trang (grade 11, Pham Phu Thu High School, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam) "rolled around" at a construction site as a bricklayer and after work, she worked hard at a landfill collecting garbage in residential areas to earn money to buy medicine for her parents.

Remember the yard of Pham Phu Thu High School (Dien Ban Town) during the flag-raising ceremony of the 2017-2018 school year suddenly became the place where Huyen Trang's dreams took flight. The program "Touching the Dream No. 14" of Thanh Nien Newspaper connected philanthropists to join hands to help. Trang's family had money to treat her parents' illnesses. Trang was given hundreds of millions of VND to cover her education. Plus many other valuable gifts and learning equipment. Not disappointing readers and philanthropists, Trang later passed the entrance exam to the Construction Management major at the University of Science and Technology - University of Da Nang .

In November 2023, Thanh Nien reporters from Da Nang City went to Quang Nam to meet Trang again. The route was still the same, but nearly 6 years had passed, and the girl was no longer in a trampling, sweaty, and tearful state... but instead, there was the laughter of a final-year student at the University of Science and Technology - University of Da Nang.

Currently, engineer Pham Thi Huyen Trang is in charge of engineering at a 3-storey housing project in Quang Nam province.

The appointment with Trang was still at the "old space" of the construction site, but Huyen Trang was different now. Amidst the rumbling sound of the concrete mixer, the dark-skinned girl quickly put the house design drawings in her bag to continue talking. Trang said: "After receiving help from Thanh Nien Newspaper readers, my family's situation gradually overcame difficulties... Up to now, my brother and I have established Thanh Su Architecture and Construction Company. I am in my final year, so every day I hold the drawings to monitor and supervise the technical construction of the project." Sitting on the second floor of the house that Trang's family company has taken on as a "turnkey" construction, looking at the winch pulling the wheelbarrow, memories seem to flood back to Trang along with the difficult days.

"For the past 6 years, since we met at the construction site, my life has been attached to bricks and concrete mixers. I have a connection with Thanh Nien Newspaper, and the reporters seem to have a "debt" to me... Now sitting at the construction site or in the university lecture hall, I have never forgotten the gratitude to Thanh Nien Newspaper and always think about the benefactors who have given wings to my dreams," Trang's voice was filled with tears. Trang's family's construction company was established more than 2 years ago with dozens of workers. Although the company still faces many difficulties, Trang always thinks of the positive things to overcome them. "Luckily, I was known to everyone through Thanh Nien Online 's articles and programs, so when the company was established, many uncles and aunts trusted the company to build their "homes". The owner of the house that my company recently built said: "I saw your picture in Thanh Nien Newspaper when you were 17 years old, that made me completely trust your family company", Trang recalled.

Trang's family has also changed somewhat. Since receiving free treatment at Da Nang Hospital, Trang's parents' health has improved. However, her mother's pain still looms at midnight. "My youngest child has a heart disease. When she was in 6th grade, Thanh Nien Newspaper gave her a bicycle. Now she is in 11th grade. Luckily, my youngest child studies very well and dreams of becoming a lawyer... I always encourage and support my youngest child as the aunts, uncles, and benefactors have believed in me," Trang said. The 17-year-old female student who almost dropped out of school to go to the South to make a living has now gradually realized her dream. "I am grateful to the benefactors and readers of Thanh Nien Newspaper. Therefore, every day when I wake up, I remind myself to try my best to work, develop the company and earn money. After that, I will continue to fulfill my dream of "giving trust" to people in the same situation as me in the past. Being grateful and repaying that gratitude is my biggest dream."
