During the following year, despite having no relatives, FV 's medical team continued to care for him until he recovered and was able to communicate; at the same time, they worked hard to coordinate with the Korean Consulate to successfully repatriate the patient.

Cannot turn back while patient is still breathing

About a year ago, when he was discovered in a deep coma in his private apartment after 2 days of not going to work, Mr. YS lay motionless amidst body odor and waste, unconscious, with only a faint breath and heartbeat.

The MRI scan showed extensive brain hemorrhage . With no family members nearby and no one to sign a consent form for surgery, the medical team had to choose between life and procedure.

"I just asked the doctor on duty one thing, ' What are the chances if we operate?'. The doctor said there was a small ray of hope for the patient to live, but the future was unpredictable. That was enough reason for us to try to save him ," recalled Dr. Vu Truong Son, Medical Director of FV Hospital.

The Journey From Vegetative State to Miraculous Resurrection

After surgery, patient YS was still in a coma. In a vegetative state, the patient's health went through many ups and downs, constantly having fevers due to many severe life-threatening infections . Treating him was a team of doctors from many specialties such as Emergency Resuscitation, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation, and Infectious Diseases. And a miracle happened: after 80 days of vegetative state , the patient regained consciousness.

The patient showed significant signs of neurological recovery. Gradually, Mr. YS can raise right hand, make fist, communicate with medical staff through eye contact, hand gestures, although movements are still weak.   "The staff in the department take care of the patient like family . Even though he cannot speak, when he starts to regain consciousness, we still talk and tease him to create reflexes. Each small progress of his is a worthy reward for the efforts of the whole team," said head nurse Chu Thi Nguyet Anh.

In parallel with the treatment process, FV Hospital coordinated with the Korean Consulate to find a solution to bring Mr. YS back to Vietnam.

After many days of effort, the Korean Consulate found a hospital that accepted their citizens.

After coordinating with FV Hospital to carefully arrange Mr. YS 's special repatriation trip, representatives of the Korean Consulate General visited and thanked the FV medical team.

Mr. Kwon Tae Han - Deputy Consul General of Korea - expressed his deep gratitude for the humanitarian support and dedicated medical expertise from FV Hospital for patient YS . Although the patient was admitted in a very serious health condition and then experienced many difficulties, the FV team did not give up but actively treated and eventually saved the patient's life .

When he learned that he was about to return to his hometown after a year of hospitalization at FV Hospital, Mr. YS could not hide his joy. Before the day of farewell, he signaled to the nurse to ask for a piece of tissue and a pen. With great effort, he wrote his email and phone number on them with shaky handwriting, then gave them to the nurse. "Perhaps he wanted to send his sincere thanks, hoped to keep in touch with us and promised to come back one day to thank the doctors and nurses," said head nurse Chu Thi Nguyet Anh.
