She is the heroic martyr of the People's Police Nguyen Thi Loi, born in 1911, from An Giang .
When the national resistance war broke out, she left her first daughter, 4 years old, with her mother in the countryside and took her second child with her husband to the North. Due to the fierce war situation, on the way, enemy bombs took away her husband and her beloved child.
The debt to the country and the revenge for her family brought her closer to the communist ideal. At that time, instead of returning home, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi decided to stop in Thanh Hoa and participate in revolutionary activities.
In 1949, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi was recruited as a service staff at the Thanh Hoa Police Department, and had the opportunity to meet comrade Hoang Dao - Head of the A13 Intelligence Team. After a while, the organization realized that this woman was brave, intelligent, and had all the qualities of an intelligence soldier, so they decided to admit her.

In early 1950, discovering the French colonialists' plot to invade the Thanh - Nghe Tinh free zone and Zone 4, the Party Central Committee directed: "We should not give the French the illusion that in our rear area there is a separatist force opposing the resistance, which is not beneficial politically and does not affect national unity... Therefore, this project must be ended soon."
Implementing the direction of the Party Central Committee, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Central Public Security Department directed the Intelligence Team A13 to mobilize people to the Thanh Hoa free zone to exploit information; at the same time, set the goal of sinking the French news ship Amyot D'Inville, which was transporting weapons and equipment to support the French army in the Northern battlefield.
Regarding this event, the book "Women of the People's Public Security through historical stages" wrote:
"According to the plan, the A13 intelligence team tricked the enemy into sending their Signal Ship into the Sam Son - Thanh Hoa sea area to pick up the wife of Bao Dai's Secretary of State to Hanoi for medical treatment (comrade Hoang Dao - A13 was appointed Secretary of State by Bao Dai)...
To carry out this plan, the A13 Intelligence Team will put a block of explosives on board to destroy the enemy ship, in order to prevent their intention to invade our Vinh - Nghe - Tinh resistance base. According to the plan, the A13 Intelligence Team must find a woman to play the role of the State Secretary's wife with the requirement that this woman must be beautiful, intelligent, brave, and ready to sacrifice to complete the mission. After the test, Nguyen Thi Loi was chosen for this role."
In the role of the wife of the Secretary of State, on the night of September 26 to the morning of September 27, 1950, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi and the intelligence team included comrades: Hoang Dao as the Secretary of State, Kim Son as the interpreter, and Le Mai as the attendant.
Also accompanying them were four militiamen who rowed the boat to escort the intelligence team escorting the Secretary of State's wife onto the Bulletin Ship. After bringing the "Secretary of State's wife" and the suitcase containing more than 30kg of explosives onto the ship, the escort team quickly left and safely reached shore.
About 30 minutes later, a loud explosion was heard in the middle of the ocean. The French ship Amyot D'Inville exploded, sinking more than 200 enemy officers and soldiers along with hundreds of tons of military equipment into the sea. In that particularly excellent battle, female spy Nguyen Thi Loi heroically sacrificed herself.
This resounding victory excited the people and army of the whole country, causing a stir in the military and political arena of France; making them confused and wavering, and the enemy internally suspicious of each other. This was also a strong blow, crushing the dark plot of the colonialists to attack the free zone of Inter-Zone IV, destroying our resistance rear.
In recognition of the achievements and noble sacrifice of female spy Nguyen Thi Loi, in 1995 the State posthumously awarded her the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
