In Ha Tinh, there are 2 collectives and 2 individuals who received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister for their achievements in the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025". Among them, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, Head of Dai Dong village (Thach Long commune, now Thach Ha commune, Ha Tinh) is the only female village head in the province to receive a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister for eliminating temporary houses.

2 decades of attachment to the village

For nearly 20 years as village chief, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, Head of Dai Dong village (Thach Long commune, now Thach Ha commune, Ha Tinh), has become a spiritual support for the people here. The dedication of the female village chief has not only helped Dai Dong village change its appearance but also brought about outstanding results in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, supporting the poor to improve their lives.

In 2006, Ms. Thao was elected as the village chief by the people. Taking on responsibilities in a locality with many tasks and many people's issues, Ms. Thao hardly had a day off for herself. "The village chief must be close to the people, and must go to the place to explain and make the people understand. Because in the countryside, people's awareness is not uniform, so the mobilization must be skillful and not hasty," Ms. Thao shared.

According to Ms. Thao, from 2022 to now, Dai Dong village has eliminated 9 temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households. In 2025 alone, in just over a month, the village completed 4 new houses, ahead of schedule and completed before May 10 as required by the province.

To implement the program effectively, right from the beginning of the program, village officials will conduct a review of each household, make a specific list and visit each house to grasp the situation, and at the same time get the opinions and consensus of the people. Each case is carefully considered to ensure the right target, the right need.

After the target was approved, the village cadres mobilized the mass organizations and people in the hamlet to participate in supporting the labor. At the same time, Ms. Thao and the village executive committee actively mobilized organizations, businesses, children living far from home and benefactors to supplement the construction funding.

Thanks to the synchronous participation, high solidarity and dedication of the female village chief, the houses were deployed quickly, on schedule, and with guaranteed quality. Each completed house not only helps poor households stabilize their lives but also creates more motivation for Dai Dong village to continue to strive in the movement to eliminate temporary houses and improve people's lives.

“In just one month, the village has completed four houses for poor households and policy households. The people here are very united. There was a campaign launched by the village to support the removal of temporary houses, and after just a few hours, more than 10 million VND was raised. When the new houses were completed, the people were extremely excited, because there were households who only dared to dream of a solid home, and now that dream has become a reality," said Ms. Thao.

For many months now, living in a new, more solid house after repairs, Mrs. Chu Thi Nam (Dai Dong village) could not hide her excitement. Previously, her makeshift house always leaked when it rained, the walls rotted, the foundation sank, and the risk of being unsafe was always present. "Before, I was afraid of the roof blowing off and leaking when it rained, and I had to endure the heat when it was sunny. Now that I have a spacious, clean, and safe house, I feel very secure. With the support of the State, the participation of organizations, and the villagers, I am very grateful," Mrs. Nam shared.

Dedicated to the poor .

The female village chief also shared that every time the commune implemented the policy of eliminating temporary houses, she was the one who went to each house in difficult circumstances to grasp the information. There were families who were reluctant to do it, afraid of the cost, and there were families who lacked people and strength, so they hesitated. Therefore, Ms. Thao patiently explained and analyzed for the people to understand.

When the people reached a consensus, Mrs. Thao called on organizations to contribute working days to support. Thanks to that consensus, Dai Dong was always one of the villages that completed the movement to eliminate temporary houses the earliest.

In addition to the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, Ms. Thao said that supporting the poor to develop the economy has always been identified by the village as a key task. Accordingly, for many years, the village chief has coordinated with organizations to review each difficult household, thereby proposing appropriate forms of support such as guidance on production techniques, connecting with preferential loans, mobilizing people to change their way of doing business, and applying appropriate economic models.

Ms. Thao also regularly disseminates the Party and State's policies and guidelines to each household, especially policies on poverty reduction and new rural development. By staying close to the grassroots, listening to people's concerns and promptly resolving difficulties, many households in the village have gradually stabilized their lives, had more livelihoods and risen above poverty sustainably.

"For many years as village chief, my children also advised me to quit my village job because it was too hard, too busy, and my health was not as good as before. I also proposed to quit several times before, but the people did not let me quit. Because of the people's trust, I will continue to stick with the desire to bring the policy closer to the people, so that everyone in need can be supported, and everyone poor can have a house to live in," Ms. Thao confided.

With her own contributions, Ms. Thao has received many certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the Chairman of the People's Committee of the old Thach Ha district... for her outstanding achievements in joining hands to build new rural areas.

Notably, this year, Ms. Thao is the only village chief in the whole province to receive a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister for her outstanding achievements in implementing the movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025".
