Mr. Hoang Ve Dung re-elected President of Vietnam Athletics Federation

Mr. Hoang Ve Dung continues to hold the position of President of the Vietnam Athletics Federation for the 8th term (2025-2029).

On April 25, the 8th Congress of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, term 2024-2029, took place in Hanoi .

At the Congress, delegates unanimously elected the 8th Executive Committee with 19 members, in which the 7th President of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, Hoang Ve Dung, was elected to continue to hold the position of President of the 8th Vietnam Athletics Federation, term 2025-2029.

In addition, the Congress also elected three Vice Presidents including Mr. Nguyen Trung Hinh, Mr. Nguyen Dai Duong and Mr. Pham The Trieu. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung assumed the position of General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation for the 2025-2029 term.

In this term, the Vietnam Athletics Federation also streamlined its organization by merging many departments and boards into only 3 units, including the Professional Board, the Fundraising Board and the Federation Office. The number of Executive Committee members also decreased from 23 to 19 members compared to the previous term.

Mr. Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, was elected to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, term VIII (2025 - 2029).

Speaking at the Congress, President of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Hoang Ve Dung said that the 2019-2024 term marked a stable development and many outstanding achievements of Vietnamese athletics in the context of being deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In terms of expertise, the Vietnam Athletics Federation has selected excellent athletes to compete in international tournaments and major events: SEA Games, Asiad, Olympics, Youth Olympics, Asian Championships, World Championships, Grand Prix.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnamese athletics maintained its position in the top of the region (first place in athletics at the 2019 and 2021 SEA Games; second place in the 2023 SEA Games). The results of the athletics team contributed significantly to the ranking of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. In Asia, Vietnamese athletics won a gold medal at the Asian Relay Championship and 2 silver medals at the Asian U20 Championship.

During this period, Vietnamese athletics had over 20 national records set in athletics. These results demonstrated the dedication and efforts in training and competition of athletes and coaches and were recognized and honored by society in the annual list of "outstanding national coaches and athletes", such as athletes: Bui Thi Thu Thao, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Le Tu Chinh, Nguyen Thi Oanh...athletics coaches such as Ho Thi Tu Tam, Vu Ngoc Loi, Cao Thanh Van, Nguyen Dinh Minh, Nguyen Manh Hieu, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Tran Van Sy...

However, Vietnamese athletics is still facing major challenges such as limited facilities, a shortage of highly qualified coaches and sports experts, as well as a clear gap with continental and world levels.

The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, term VIII, with 19 members, was introduced at the Congress.

In the new term, the Vietnam Athletics Federation will focus on investing in developing young talented athletes with the potential to meet regional and international standards. Prepare well for participation and high achievements at the 2028 Olympics, 2026 Asiad and the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 and further to the 34th SEA Games in 2027, the 35th SEA Games in 2029.

In addition, the Federation also organizes regular training for the national team and youth team every year. Maintain and improve achievements in strong events such as long jump, short run, medium run; Promote the application of science, technology, and innovative sports medicine in athlete training; Enhance the application of science, technology, and sports medicine in selection, training, recovery, and injury prevention; Enhance international cooperation, invite good experts to participate in training; Promote communication and promote the image of Vietnamese athletics...
