Pepper price today May 23, 2025: Maintain above 150,000 VND/kg

In mid-May, pepper prices in major domestic growing regions decreased compared to the previous month, with a decrease of 4,500 to 6,000 VND/kg. The current price fluctuates around 151,000 - 152,000 VND/kg.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the domestic market still lacks clear momentum for price increases due to slow consumption and traders' wait-and-see attitude. A report from Ptexim also shows that Vietnamese pepper prices have decreased over the past week due to weak demand in major markets such as the US and China. However, the European market is showing positive signs of recovery.

On the production side, although pepper prices have improved in recent times, farmers have not expanded their planting areas. Current prices are not attractive enough to offset the risks, causing many to switch to growing higher value crops such as durian and avocado. In addition, limited agricultural land continues to be a major barrier to the development of pepper growing areas.

Pepper price today May 23 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the pepper prices of all types traded in the international market on May 21 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price increased slightly compared to yesterday at 7,421 USD/ton (up 0.61%). In addition, Muntok white pepper price also increased slightly compared to yesterday at 10,119 USD/ton (up 0.6%).

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,700/ton.

In the international market, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that world pepper prices remained high due to limited post-harvest supply and expectations of increased demand from the Middle East and Europe in the second quarter of 2025. However, the general trend is still flat prices. Although prices have increased compared to the same period last year, pepper growing areas have not expanded due to both land factors and crop conversion trends.

In the first 15 days of May, Vietnam exported 10,594 tons of pepper, earning about 74.6 million USD. Compared to the first half of April, the export volume increased slightly by 1.7%, while the value increased by 3.6%. The US and China continued to be the two largest export markets, with consumption of 2,521 tons and 1,073 tons, respectively.

Notably, in the first half of May alone, the export volume to China was almost equal to the previous month, showing that demand in this market is gradually improving.
