In two consecutive years 2023 and 2024, Team Viettel Cyber Security has won the championship at Pwn2Own in the smart device category held in Ireland and Toronto.
In this competition season, for the first time, Team Viettel Cyber Security participated and successfully conquered the new category: Virtualization Server and Enterprise Application.
This impressive achievement marks a strategic shift in Viettel Cyber Security's research and competition activities - from smart devices, which are its traditional strength, to complex and highly systematic technology platforms such as virtualization, AI systems and enterprise infrastructure.
Within the framework of the competition, Team VCS successfully exploited three targets: NVIDIA Triton Inference Server - an artificial intelligence system commonly used in industry; Oracle VirtualBox - a leading open source virtualization platform; Microsoft SharePoint - Microsoft's famous data management and enterprise collaboration system.
Achieving a perfect score demonstrates comprehensive security analysis capabilities, rapid update speed with new technology trends, and reflects the depth of research of Viettel's young engineers - who are pioneering in new generation security.
In two consecutive years 2023 and 2024, Team Viettel Cyber Security has won the championship at Pwn2Own in the smart device category held in Ireland and Toronto.
Pwn2Own is one of the most prestigious security exploit competitions in the world, organized annually by the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). The competition brings together the world's leading research teams, competing in the most complex security technology fields.
In 2025, the three main seasons include: Pwn2Own Automotive Tokyo (January), focusing on smart and connected car devices; Pwn2Own Berlin (May), focusing on virtualized servers and enterprise applications; and Pwn2Own Toronto (end of the year), focusing on smart devices. Each Pwn2Own season has its own theme, with Pwn2Own Berlin 2025 focusing on virtualization and enterprise applications – a target group with the lowest success rate in recent years.
Notably, this year's season introduced AI-related goals into the competition system for the first time. Team VCS's successful exploitation of the AI platform in its first participation in this target group not only affirms the team's outstanding capabilities, but also demonstrates Viettel's long-term strategic vision in investing in key security areas in the future.
Team Viettel Cyber Security ranked second overall, just behind the champion team from Singapore due to registering fewer targets (3/6 targets). However, the successful exploitation of Microsoft SharePoint – the target considered the most difficult of the season – made a strong impression in the international cybersecurity community.
The success at Pwn2Own Berlin 2025 continues to extend Viettel Cyber Security's international presence at major technology playgrounds, contributing to affirming Vietnam's position as a country with the highest level of security vulnerability research and exploitation capabilities in the world.
