Recently, Thanh Vu Bac Lieu Hospital announced that it had successfully treated and brought a patient back from the brink of death after being stung 120 times by wasps on his body.
Specifically, about 3 weeks ago, Mr. PVT (68 years old, Hung Phu commune, Phuoc Long district, Bac Lieu province) was stung by wasps. Through initial examination, doctors said that Mr. T. had about 120 bee stings on his body. After being stung by bees, the patient began to suffer from severe blood clotting disorder and multiple organ damage, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, with a high risk of death.
Doctors had to use many measures such as continuous blood filtration, plasma exchange, non-invasive ventilator support... After 21 days of intensive treatment, Mr. T's health stabilized, passed the critical stage and was able to be discharged from the hospital.
According to Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Emergency Resuscitation at Thanh Vu Bac Lieu Hospital, hornet venom is very toxic and dangerous. In Mr. T's case, being stung by a large number of hornets, if not treated promptly, could quickly lead to multi-organ damage and death.
It took 21 days of intensive treatment with many different measures for Mr. T. to stabilize his health (Photo provided by the hospital).
Doctors say that when a person is stung by a bee, the wound needs to be treated on the spot, pain relief, and other acute complications need to be monitored and detected. If there are signs of hives, difficulty breathing, severe pain, facial swelling, blood in the urine, etc., it is necessary to urgently call an ambulance or take the person to a medical facility for timely examination and treatment by a doctor.
