TikTok officially stopped operating in the US on the night of January 19 ( Hanoi time), after the platform announced it at noon the same day. The important development took place right before the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
Previously, users of this platform in the US received a message saying "Unfortunately, TikTok is currently unavailable. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the US. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use TikTok at this time."
The app also made no secret of Mr. Trump, saying that the new president would work with the company to find a solution to restore the platform after his inauguration. On the social network Truth Social, founded by Mr. Trump himself, the president's account posted a short post with the message "Save TikTok."

On the night of January 19, the app disappeared from Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store in the US. The platform was unable to operate due to the bipartisan law passed by President Biden, signed in the spring of 2024.
The new policy requires ByteDance, the social network’s parent company, to sell TikTok or face a ban. Internet hosting services, such as Amazon Cloud, the App Store, and the Play Store, must also stop providing TikTok services to Americans.
Meanwhile, analysts cite many signs that Mr. Trump supports TikTok. This social network is one of the means for the new US president to reach young voters ahead of the election in November 2024.
According to Fox, Mr. Trump said that he needed to review the ban before making a decision. At the same time, the incoming president will extend TikTok's ban for another 90 days, starting January 19.
In a video posted on the platform on January 18, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew thanked Mr. Trump for his commitment to cooperate and find a solution so that TikTok can continue to operate in the US.
