Russia takes control of eastern Ukraine village
The Russian military announced on June 28 that it had taken control of the village of Rozdolivka, about 20 km from the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk province. Moscow said it had gained better positions after pushing Kyiv forces out of the village. This is considered the latest victory as Russian troops have gradually advanced on the battlefield in recent times.
Ukraine did not immediately comment. A day earlier, the Ukrainian military said it had pushed Russian forces back from a district in the town of Chasiv Yar, in Donetsk province.

Four people were killed and three injured in shelling in the town of New York on June 28, Ukrainian regional officials in Donetsk said. The shelling destroyed the entrance to a five-story building.
In Kharkiv province, shelling earlier in the day killed a woman in a border area while two others were wounded in southern Kherson province.

Also in Donetsk, the Ukrainian National Guard released a video on June 28, claiming that its soldiers had used a shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile to shoot down a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft. This is believed to be the second Su-25 that Ukraine claimed to have destroyed this month.
On the same day, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced that it had destroyed a Russian space communications center in Crimea in an attack this week. The center was described as a key part of the Russian soldiers’ satellite navigation and communications system, according to The Kyiv Independent .
Meanwhile, the governor of Russia's Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said air defense forces had shot down six Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), after the Defense Ministry announced the shooting down of 12 others.

On the same day, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov ordered the military to present a response plan to provocations related to NATO's growing involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. The Russian Defense Ministry's statement noted the increased missions of US strategic drones in the Black Sea, accusing them of carrying out reconnaissance missions and providing targeting data for weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine.

"Such flights increase the likelihood of an accident in airspace involving Russian military aircraft and the risk of direct confrontation between the alliance and the Russian Federation," Moscow warned, stressing that NATO members would be held responsible if such a situation occurred.
Previously, Russia accused the US of programming and feeding data into missiles for Ukraine to attack Crimea. Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder denied that it was the Ukrainians who made the decision on the target to attack.
President Zelensky does not want the conflict to last
The Ukrainian president said on June 28 that he was working on a comprehensive plan to end the conflict with Russia. "It is very important for us to come up with a plan to end the war that will be supported by the majority of the world. This is the diplomatic path we are working on," Mr. Zelensky said at a press conference in Kyiv while welcoming Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar.

A day earlier, speaking at a joint press conference with European Union (EU) leaders in Belgium, Mr. Zelensky said that a plan to resolve the conflict should be put forward in the next few months and that Kyiv was not seeking to prolong the war for many more years.
"Ukraine does not want a protracted war. We do not want it to drag on for years. We have many wounded and dead on the battlefield. We must put a settlement plan on the table in a few months," the leader said.

The statement was made when he signed a security agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on June 28 that military commitments in 20 bilateral security agreements that Ukraine signed with its partners will bring the country 60 billion USD per year in the next 4 years.
