In an interview with British media on March 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it would not be easy to replace him, but reiterated his offer to resign in exchange for Ukraine's NATO membership.

Some figures in the US Republican Party said that Mr. Zelensky should resign after a "disastrous" conversation with US President Donald Trump at the White House on February 28.

"If they replace me, with what's going on and the current support, replacing me will not be simple," Reuters quoted Mr. Zelensky as saying.

"Just holding an election is not enough. You also need to make sure I don't run. That will be a little more difficult. It looks like you will have to negotiate with me," he added.

He then reiterated his offer to resign in exchange for Ukraine's NATO membership. "Then I will have fulfilled my mission," he said.

As European leaders rally support for Ukraine, some Republican US officials on March 2 questioned the possibility of reaching an agreement with Russia if Mr. Zelensky remained in office.

"We need a leader who can make a deal with us, then make a deal with Russia and end this war," National Security Adviser Mike Waltz told CNN. House Speaker Mike Johnson also questioned Zelensky's position.

In another development, a survey conducted by CBS News from February 26-28 showed that Americans have mixed views on supporting Ukraine.

Accordingly, 52% support Ukraine, 44% are neutral and 4% support Russia. 46% think that Mr. Trump favors Russia, 43% think that Mr. Trump treats both Russia and Ukraine equally and only 11% think that Mr. Trump favors Ukraine. The survey involved 2,311 adults in the US.
