Perisic plays the role of hero for PSV. |
In the early morning of May 4, Perisic scored a hat-trick in PSV's 4-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard in round 31 of the Eredivisie. Coach Peter Bosz's team had their fourth consecutive victory at home at Philips Stadion, thereby narrowing the gap with the leading team Ajax to 4 points, in the context of only 3 rounds left in the tournament.
Perisic opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst. In the 40th minute, the Croatian star continued to add his name to the scoreboard against a Fortuna Sittard side that no longer has many goals to strive for this season.
After 2 goals, PSV showed no signs of stopping. In the 60th minute, Noa Lang scored the 3rd goal after an assist from Guus Til. Fortuna Sittard had an honorary goal when Jasper Dahlhaus scored in the 64th minute.
However, just 9 minutes later, Perisic once again spoke up. He completed his hat-trick after Til's "set-up" pass, thereby extinguishing all efforts of the away team.
This brilliant performance brought Perisic's total number of goals this season to 14 (7 of which were in the Eredivisie), along with 10 assists. The Croatian veteran's impressive form is one of the important factors helping PSV maintain their hopes of competing with Ajax for the championship until the final rounds.
Perisic only joined PSV in September 2024 on a free transfer and signed a contract until the end of this season with the Dutch club. With his current performance, Perisic is likely to be signed by PSV to extend his contract.
