Breaking up a football betting and lottery ring worth 20 billion VND

On December 27, the Investigation Police Agency, Hoa Binh Provincial Police issued a decision to temporarily detain 7 subjects, including: Pham Ngoc Thanh; Nguyen Ngoc Tuan; Dang Anh Dung; Pham Que; Nguyen Van Tung; Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Nguyen Sy Ky for gambling and organizing gambling.

Initial determination of the amount of money the subjects bet and gambled from the beginning of November 2023 until the time of arrest was about 20 billion VND.

Previously, through the work of grasping the situation in Hoa Binh City, the Criminal Police Department of Hoa Binh Provincial Police found that an illegal gambling ring in the form of buying and selling lottery numbers and football betting was very complicated with sophisticated tricks, causing insecurity and disorder in the area by 2 groups of subjects.

The leader of the group of illegal gamblers in the form of buying and selling lottery numbers is Pham Ngoc Thanh (aka Thanh Doanh, born in 1986, in Thai Binh ward, Hoa Binh city). Pham Ngoc Thanh collected lottery numbers from Nguyen Ngoc Tuan through the iMessage application.

Initial determination of the amount of money involved in gambling on December 25 was about 120 million VND. Pham Ngoc Thanh gambled with Nguyen Ngoc Tuan for more than 51 million VND and this amount was transferred by Thanh to a common group on the iMessage application with Pham Que and Dang Anh Dung to accept the win or lose together.

At the Police Investigation Agency, the subjects admitted all their violations.

Currently, the case is being further investigated and handled by the Investigation Police Agency.
