Time seemed to not be able to stop Pham Van Mach when he won the highest title in the 55 kg category at the Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship - Indonesia, at the age of 49.

When his name was called, Pham Van Mach could not believe it was true after competing and flexing his muscles with extremely strong opponents. After a season in 2024 due to not being able to arrange a suitable training schedule, the "singing athlete" has returned with the best version in his forte weight class, as he has affirmed his position for more than 2 decades.

Putting himself in a strict "tightening" mode for nearly half a year with two targets: the National Championship and the World Championship, Pham Van Mach is proud to have completed the best set target with two prestigious gold medals within 2 months. This also partly explains the secret to the success of the man in his fifties who has almost no opponents on every stage.

Wearing the national team jersey since 1998, this athlete from An Giang has won over 40 medals of all kinds, including 7 Southeast Asian and SEA Games gold medals, 8 Asian gold medals and 7 world gold medals (not including the gold medal in 2023). This collection of achievements is considered the most massive in an individual sport where effort in training and competition is extremely important.

Many records of Vietnamese sports have been and are belonging to the "singing bodybuilder" with a modest height but a body and muscles that are "oversized" compared to his body weight. While many colleagues of the same age have retired, switched to coaching or pursued their own careers, Pham Van Mach is still attached to bodybuilding because of a passion that has been nurtured for nearly 3 decades.

Pham Van Mach was the first Vietnamese male athlete to win the world championship title when he was crowned in 2001, 12 years before Le Quang Liem won the blitz chess gold medal at the 2013 Chess World Cup. Eight Asian championship titles were already a "phenomenon", but the fact that he won 7 world championships - the first time 24 years after the last - are very difficult records to break, not only in bodybuilding but also in the country's sports.

On the first day of competition on November 14, the Vietnamese bodybuilding team won a total of 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals.
