(QNO) - This morning, June 5, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment organized the program "Cycling for the environment" in response to World Environment Day (June 5), Vietnam Sea and Island Week (June 1-8) and Action Month for the Environment in 2023.
Participating in the program are cycling clubs and associations in Tam Ky, Nui Thanh, Duy Xuyen, Thang Binh and youth union members of Tam Ky city.
This year's World Environment Day was launched by the United Nations Environment Program with the theme "Solutions to plastic pollution", focusing on combating plastic pollution. Vietnam Sea and Islands Week has the theme "Exploiting and using resources sustainably, protecting the marine and island environment" with the message of building a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature, honoring the values of the ocean for human life, protecting environmental resources and islands for the entire community, controlling and solving plastic waste pollution through policies and initiatives towards a greener, cleaner lifestyle.
Response activities are held at their peak from mid-May to the end of June with many activities such as rallies, parades, competitions, seminars, and talks on management, exploitation, rational, effective, and sustainable use of marine and island resources, and environmental protection.
Along with that are activities to protect the environment, plant trees, collect and treat waste, recycle festivals, green living festivals, volunteer Saturdays, green Sundays...
Activities aim to change behaviors, living habits, and consumption to limit the generation of plastic waste, reject disposable plastic products, non-biodegradable plastic bags, and promote propaganda against dumping plastic waste into the ocean. Organize groundbreaking, construction, and handover activities for environmental protection projects to serve the interests of the community and develop a sustainable marine economy and adapt to climate change.
Launching the program, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Thanh Ha hopes that through the cycling event for the environment, even though it is just a small action, it will have a big impact to contribute voices, raise awareness, and take action with the spirit of acting together for the environment, for the green planet to be spread to many people to change awareness and action against bad and ugly habits that affect the environment. Mr. Tran Thanh Ha hopes that this activity will not stop at a response event but will become a specific daily action for a green - clean - beautiful environment.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, cycling clubs, associations and youth union members cycled around the main streets of Tam Ky City.
