On July 22, this agency announced the above information after receiving the test results from the Dong Nai Province Testing Center. The fake drug sample this time was taken at My Anh Pharmacy, belonging to My Anh General Clinic LLC, located in Bu Gia Map District, Binh Phuoc Province.
The counterfeit product was found to be labeled Theophylline extended-Release tablets 100 mg (Theophyllin 100mg), lot number 05089, with the place of manufacture listed as Pharmacy Laboratories Plus (Warsaw). The label did not contain any information about the registration number or import license number, nor did it contain any information about the importer.
The test results showed that the drug sample did not meet the quality requirements for both quantitative indicators (only 19.71% of the content stated on the label) and solubility indicators (18.8-22.5%) according to Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia standards.
At the end of May, the agency also discovered and warned about a similar counterfeit drug but with a content of 200 mg. This drug has a label stating Theophylline Extended Release Tablets 200 mg (Theophylin 200 mg), lot number 21127, and the place of manufacture is Pharmacy Laboratories Plus. The label of this product also lacks information about the circulation registration number, import license number, and importing facility. Test results showed that the Theophyllin content in the drug was only 6.3% of the level stated on the label.
The Department of Pharmacy has requested relevant agencies to trace the origin of this batch of fake drugs and strictly handle violators according to regulations.
The Department also recommends that businesses be widely notified not to buy, sell or use this product. People are advised to immediately stop using Theophyllin extended-release tablets (both 100mg and 200mg) and notify health authorities when they detect suspicious signs of the production and trading of counterfeit drugs or drugs of unknown origin.
Medicines are special commodities that directly affect human health and life, and therefore need to be strictly managed. All activities related to the production, business, trade and use of medicines must strictly comply with the principles and standards stipulated in the Pharmacy Law and related legal documents. The act of producing and trading counterfeit medicines is strictly prohibited and can be criminally prosecuted with sentences ranging from two years in prison to the death penalty.
Recently, authorities have continuously discovered fake drugs, fake functional foods, fake health protection foods... Recently, the Ministry of Health requested an investigation into the origin of a batch of fake stomach medicine labeled NEXIUM 40 mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole) due to poor quality. In mid-April, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police dismantled a large-scale production and trade ring of fake modern medicine and arrested 14 people.
