Reporter (PV): Could you please tell us about the initial results of promoting the culinary cultural value of 200 dishes made from lotus plants in Dong Thap province, which were recognized as Vietnamese and World Records (May 2022), contributing to promoting tourism development and enhancing the value chain of the lotus industry?

Ms. Huynh Thi Hoai Thu: In 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will strengthen the implementation of the plan to promote the value of 200 lotus dishes to the system of restaurants and eateries inside and outside the tourism system; promote the promotion of lotus cuisine through the Tourism Information Portal. We have also organized training courses on lotus dishes and training on local culinary knowledge, focusing on highlighting the value of lotus in life, in the economy and cuisine, contributing to building the typical image of Dong Thap province in general and the image of Dong Thap tourism in particular.

Up to now, most restaurants in key tourist areas and destinations and restaurants in accommodation systems have lotus menus to serve tourists.

PV: What are the advantages and difficulties in implementing solutions to promote the value of dishes made from lotus?

Ms. Huynh Thi Hoai Thu: In order to concretize the plan of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued an official dispatch requesting localities, tourist areas, spots, and food service establishments to supplement the menu of dishes made from lotus, initially receiving high consensus and support. Most of the key areas, spots and typical restaurant systems in the province have implemented it. On the other hand, promoting the value of 200 dishes made from lotus not only introduces and promotes Dong Thap's culinary culture, but is also one of the tasks to promote the development of Dong Thap's lotus industry to achieve many positive results as present.

With the functions and tasks of the industry, in recent times, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has actively advised the Provincial People's Committee to organize many activities and events to promote the image and exploit the values ​​of lotus such as: The first Lotus Festival in 2022, participating in many domestic and international tourism events and forums. From there, contributing to gradually affirming the position of the lotus industry value chain in the region and the whole country.

However, there are still some difficulties. For example, key tourist areas and attractions and typical restaurant and eatery systems in the province serve dishes made from lotus, but do not include lotus dishes in separate menus, so the coordination of propaganda and introduction is not really effective.

PV: What are the solutions to promote the value of 200 lotus dishes in the coming time, especially to spread lotus dishes, support for the system of restaurants, tourist areas and spots...?

Ms. Huynh Thi Hoai Thu: To continue promoting the value of 200 lotus dishes, in the coming time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will carry out many tasks. Specifically, strengthen the propaganda of lotus culinary values ​​in life and tourism; organize training courses on lotus dishes for restaurants, hotels, tourist areas, attractions and community tourism businesses and restaurants, eateries outside the tourism system; organize lotus culinary competitions on the occasion of major events and festivals of the province. We continue to coordinate with the Center for Trade, Tourism and Investment Promotion to participate in activities to demonstrate and display lotus cuisine at major tourism fairs and events such as: VITM Hanoi, Da Nang International Tourism Fair, ITE - Ho Chi Minh City, Dat Phuong Nam Culinary Festival...; coordinate with press agencies to carry out columns and programs to experience lotus cuisine...
