Promoting the role of the elderly

The elderly are a valuable asset to each family and the whole society. With their rich experience, wisdom and morality, they are not only living witnesses of history but also shining examples for the younger generations to follow. In recent times, Duc Xuan ward has implemented many activities to care for the elderly.

Responding to the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam (October 2025), Duc Xuan Ward organized many practical and meaningful activities to encourage and care for the spiritual and material life of elderly members. The highlight of the series of activities was the volleyball exchange program with the theme "Practicing sports following the example of great Uncle Ho".

The ward also organized delegations to visit and give gifts to members in difficult circumstances, demonstrating the deep concern of authorities at all levels and the Association of the Elderly for vulnerable people in society.

These activities not only raise awareness of the role, position and contributions of the elderly in society, but also contribute to arousing the spirit of living happily, healthily and usefully in each member.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thong, Chairwoman of the Duc Xuan Ward Elderly Association, said: This is also an opportunity for the elderly to share life experiences, contributing to building a rich and healthy cultural and spiritual life. The activity also demonstrates the concern of Party committees, authorities and mass organizations for the elderly. From there, they are encouraged to continue to promote their wisdom and experience, accompanying the younger generation to build their homeland and country.

The Duc Xuan Ward Elderly Association currently has 45 branches, with 2,432 members. Over the past 5 years, more than 100 officers and branches of the ward's elderly association have participated in training courses organized by the elderly association at all levels, to improve their skills and professional work of the association.

The Association also pays special attention to health care for its members, coordinating with the health sector to organize periodic health check-ups, general and specialized check-ups for more than 2,000 elderly people. Of these, 51 elderly people were consulted for free or at reasonable costs for eye surgery. Longevity and longevity celebrations were carried out solemnly, in accordance with regulations, with a total of 1,672 elderly people being congratulated.

Ms. Vu Thi Kim Quynh, Vice Chairman of Duc Xuan Ward People's Committee, said: In order for the care and promotion of the role of the elderly to truly go into depth, local authorities and associations at all levels continue to strengthen communication to raise awareness about the elderly and the issue of population aging; invest in building appropriate cultural, medical and sports institutions. Along with that, develop models such as: the elderly helping each other to do business , multi-generational families; promote volunteer activities, connect the young generation with the elderly to create a more cohesive and humane society.
