With independent thinking, foreign language skills and passion for spreading knowledge, Bach Duong has just been honored as the 2025 Ambassador of Reading Culture of Da Nang .

Nurture a special love for books

Bach Duong's journey to books began very early, when he was still in preschool age. The first comic pages, the times his mother read with him before bedtime gradually nurtured in him a special love for books. The more he read, the more he saw the world becoming new to explore.

“I love reading books, especially genres like science , history, and comics. Whenever I have free time, I often open books to read because they contain many interesting and useful things, as well as things from the outside world that I don’t know yet,” Bach Duong shared.

Aries reads to understand and retells in her own language, sometimes in English. It is the regular bilingual reading that helps her develop her vocabulary, communication skills and critical thinking. Her clear voice, confident demeanor and vivid storytelling leave an impression on her listeners.

Bach Duong's love for books is a process from getting acquainted, maintaining the habit to loving reading. In that process, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tinh - Bach Duong's mother played a particularly important role, being the one who actively ignited her passion for reading.

Instead of buying books and reading them to my child, I choose to give him the right to choose the books to read. He can read two or three books a day, but the important thing is that he chooses the book himself and tells me about it.

According to Ms. Thanh Tinh, it is this initiative that helps Duong nurture a true love of books. The fact that he chooses his own books and tells his own stories has formed his language skills, creative thinking and independence, which no classroom can fully provide.

Spreading reading culture

Once he was “full” of his love for books, Bach Duong began to share that joy with his friends. He became a mentor of Reading Club – an online English learning club for children with more than 2,000 sponsored ebooks.

The club currently has nearly 800 members nationwide, each session attracts about 60 students to read and practice together.

“I guide my friends to read books in the reading game. The more they read, the better their English becomes and the more they enjoy reading. I want to spread the love of reading to as many people as possible, so that everyone can find joy in knowledge,” Bach Duong shared.

Not stopping at spreading reading culture on online platforms, Bach Duong also cherishes building a project to give books to children in remote areas.

“Children in difficult circumstances do not have the opportunity to read many books, which is a great disadvantage. Therefore, I will donate the books I have finished reading to children in difficult circumstances, as well as toys for them to play with,” Duong said.

With the title of Danang Reading Culture Ambassador, Duong is considered a prominent face thanks to his fluent bilingual ability and creative ideas in spreading reading culture to the community.

“This result is a recognition of Bach Duong’s long-term efforts. The family hopes that Bach Duong’s story will inspire other children to be more confident and bolder in expressing themselves,” said Ms. Tinh.

With passion and sharing spirit, Bach Duong is not only the Ambassador of Reading Culture of Da Nang, but also a small role model for the young generation who love knowledge. From the first pages of the book, he wrote his own story - a story about reading to grow, reading to spread and reading to do good deeds.
