On the evening of December 5, nearly 500 students and parents attended an exchange with writer Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association , with the theme "From reading to writing - the journey of language development" at FAHASA Tan Dinh Bookstore (HCMC) on the occasion of introducing the children's book series Papelucho organized by the Vietnam Education Publishing House and Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company.

Accordingly, Papelucho is an 8-year-old boy in the book series of the same name by Marcela Paz, a famous Chilean writer and sculptor. He has a secret that he thinks is terrible and cannot be told to anyone, so he decides to write that secret in his diary.

His diary of experiences and reflections created a series of 12 books published between 1947 and 1974 and two posthumous books published in 2017. The Papelucho series became a classic of Chilean children's literature and culture, translated into many languages.

The Vietnam Education Publishing House and the Chilean Embassy in Vietnam have signed an agreement on cultural cooperation and translation of the work Papelucho from Spanish to Vietnamese. This cooperation is considered a new milestone in the bilateral relationship, helping to introduce and spread the unique features of Chilean culture and education to Vietnam.

Interacting with students and parents at the introduction of this children's book series, writer Nguyen Quang Thieu acknowledged the reality that many children prefer to use their phones rather than read books. "When adults use their phones too much, children will also turn to their phones," the writer commented.

The President of the Vietnam Writers Association told a story from his family: "When the adults in the family are all absorbed in surfing the phone, my grandson also asks for the phone. But when the adults hold a book to read, my grandson also goes looking for a book to read."

From there, the writer shared: "To create a reading habit for children, grandparents, parents, uncles and aunts must be pioneers in reading. It is necessary to create a reading environment for children. For children to love books, books must represent children's lives and reflect what children are thinking."

As for Luong Ha An, a student at Hai Ba Trung Secondary School (Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), she "asked" writer Nguyen Quang Thieu to show her how to get inspiration for writing essays as well as in life.

The writer shared: "I once had about 10 years of losing inspiration, how to get back, the pure youth, the aspiration, the commitment but I missed it. So, where we lose inspiration, we return to that exact place. When we are not inspired by a certain topic, we should return to that topic at the desk where there is a window frame or in the park, in the garden or even in a coffee shop. Ask yourself why you are bored with it, hate it, you will find the way to love".
