Along with strengthening communication through various channels, in the ethnic minority areas of Dang Kang commune, the local Party committee, government, and mass organizations also focus on promoting the role of village elders, hamlet leaders, and influential people in propaganda and mobilization work.

Village elder Y Lú Byă regularly propagates and mobilizes the people in Cư Păm village.

For example, in the village of Cư Păm, as the village elder and a respected figure, Mr. Y Lú Byă skillfully applied customary laws and his acquired legal knowledge to propagate, mobilize, and persuade the villagers. During community gatherings, meetings, or holidays, Elder Y Lú would incorporate the dissemination of information about the Marriage and Family Law, gender equality, and analyze the consequences of child marriage and consanguineous marriage, encouraging families to prevent their children from dropping out of school early.

Elder Y Lú shared: “I frequently remind my children, grandchildren, and young people in the village not to drop out of school, not to marry early, and not to marry someone from the same family. At the same time, I instruct parents to wait until their children are of legal age before allowing them to marry.”

As a result, in recent years, the people in Cu Pam village have raised their awareness, and there is no longer any consanguineous marriage in the village, while child marriage has decreased significantly.

Health station staff in Dang Kang commune regularly exchange information and raise awareness about child marriage with village chiefs and influential people.

Similarly, in Dang Kang village, home to a large ethnic minority population, it was once a hotspot for child marriage and consanguineous marriage. However, thanks to the persistent efforts of Mr. Y Khuin Niê, the village head of Dang Kang, in raising awareness and campaigning, this situation has been effectively brought under control.

“I regularly disseminate information through village meetings and national unity festivals; together with commune officials, I go to each household to check on marriage registration. If we discover cases of underage marriage, we draw up a report and inform the authorities to prevent it in time. To date, in Dang Kang village, there is no longer any child marriage or consanguineous marriage,” Mr. Y Khuin said.

For example, H'Nhel Niê's family was poor and had many children, so H'Nhel dropped out of school early to help her mother with farming. Because someone proposed marriage, H'Nhel planned to get married at the young age of 16. However, with the encouragement of Mr. Y Khuin, H'Nhel waited until she was of legal marriage age. To date, H'Nhel and her husband have three children and a stable income from their five acres of coffee plantations that are currently producing crops.

In Dang Kang commune, there are currently five influential figures among the ethnic minority community. These individuals have significant influence in mobilizing the community. Besides promptly implementing policies and programs to support and encourage this group, Dang Kang commune also focuses on leveraging the role of these influential figures in implementing Sub-project 2 - Project 9 of the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, aiming to reduce child marriage and consanguineous marriage.

As a result, the number of child marriage cases has gradually decreased year by year, and currently there are no more cases of consanguineous marriage. Specifically, from 2021 to 2024, there were four cases of child marriage in Dang Kang commune. However, since the beginning of 2025, there have been no more cases of child marriage, and no new cases have been detected.

Leaflets raising awareness about child marriage and consanguineous marriage were distributed in ethnic minority villages in Dang Kang commune.

According to Tran The Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dang Kang commune, the main reasons leading to child marriage are that some young people drop out of school early, lack legal knowledge, and are influenced by their friends. Therefore, in the coming time, the commune will continue to lead and direct relevant departments, village self-governing boards, especially village heads and influential people, to strengthen propaganda work. At the same time, they will organize the signing of commitments with households regarding the prevention of child marriage and consanguineous marriage, raising awareness among the people and ensuring compliance with the law on marriage and family.
