"They are poisoning the blood of our country. From all over the world , they are pouring into our country," former US President Donald Trump said at a campaign rally in Durham, New Hampshire on December 16.
Mr. Trump has pledged to crack down on illegal immigration and restrict immigration if re-elected next year.
The former White House occupant made similar comments in a media interview in September.
The statement was immediately met with criticism, with Anti-Defamation League chief Jonathan Greenblatt calling Trump's remarks "racist and xenophobic."
Jonathan Stanley, a Yale professor and author of a book on fascism, said Mr Trump’s repeated use of that language was “very dangerous”. “He keeps repeating this language. It’s very dangerous. It’s about the safety of immigrants in the US,” he said.
In October, Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Mr. Trump’s campaign, dismissed the criticism, saying such language was common in print and on television. The spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Mr. Trump’s latest remarks.
