QTO - In the journey of transitioning to a green growth model of the whole country, Quang Tri is one of the localities with early, methodical and determined steps in developing clean energy. With the characteristics of a sunny and windy land of the Central region, the province has been making the most of its natural advantages to turn difficulties into resources, turning challenges into development opportunities.

Green energy transition journey

With strategic orientation and strong direction from the Party Committee and government, Quang Tri has attracted many large investors, opening a period of strong breakthrough in energy. A series of wind power, solar power, hydropower, waste energy projects and especially gas-fired thermal power projects are being implemented in the locality, creating a diverse, modern and environmentally harmonious energy ecosystem.

The synchronous development from power sources to transmission grid systems not only meets the socio -economic development needs of the province but also makes an important contribution to national energy security. This puts Quang Tri in the position of clean, green and efficient energy center of the Central region in the near future.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Ho Xuan Hoe, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, emphasized: “Quang Tri has great advantages in terms of sunshine, wind and strategic location connecting the East-West Economic Corridor. In recent years, the province has proactively built mechanisms and mobilized resources to synchronously develop both power sources and power grids. This is an important foundation for the province to attract large-scale projects, creating a socio-economic shift. We identify the development of clean energy and renewable energy as the strategic development axis, an opportunity for Quang Tri to make a breakthrough in the new period.”

According to Mr. Ho Xuan Hoe, the Industry and Trade sector is continuing to closely coordinate with ministries, branches and investors to ensure key projects are implemented on schedule, while focusing on sustainability, environmental protection and creating new livelihoods for people.

Affirming the dynamic local position in energy

Possessing outstanding advantages in wind power and gas power, along with a diverse energy source system from thermal power to hydropower, Quang Tri is considered one of the localities with ideal conditions for developing the energy industry, especially renewable energy. Up to now, the total capacity of projects that have generated electricity and are in commercial operation in the area has reached nearly 1,559 MW, including: 22 wind power projects, 11 hydropower projects, 4 ground-mounted solar power projects and more than 1,200 rooftop solar power projects, contributing to the formation of an increasingly complete green energy ecosystem.

Along with the projects that have been put into operation, many large-scale energy projects continue to be approved by competent authorities for investment and are being implemented. The province is also promoting 5 nearshore wind power projects with a total capacity of nearly 1,000 MW, of which 1 project has been approved for investment and the remaining 4 projects are under consideration. Offshore wind power projects are also in the process of surveying and attracting investment, opening up the prospect of forming a large-scale offshore wind power industry in the future.

In the picture of energy development in Quang Tri, Phu Trach commune stands out as a special highlight when it was chosen to implement Quang Trach Power Center, one of the key, large-scale energy projects in the country. Quang Trach Power Center has a total capacity of more than 4,400 MW, with a total investment of over 140,000 billion VND, including the following plants: Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant, Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Plant, Quang Trach III LNG Thermal Power Plant with a synchronous, modern infrastructure system. These are projects of special importance, not only contributing to national energy security but also opening up comprehensive development opportunities for the locality.

Sharing about the role of the locality in the implementation of projects, Chairman of Phu Trach Commune People's Committee Pham Minh Canh said: "The Quang Trach Power Center project is a historic opportunity for Phu Trach commune, a newly established locality with many difficulties. When the projects come into operation, Phu Trach will have the conditions to strongly transform itself, aiming to become an industrial-service center, even a coastal urban area in the future. Energy projects are opening up the possibility of creating thousands of jobs, increasing budget revenue, promoting trade and services and improving the lives of local people. The Party Committee and government of Phu Trach commune always identify the key task for the 2025-2030 term as accompanying and providing maximum support so that the projects can be implemented smoothly and on schedule. This is both a political responsibility and a common desire of all Phu Trach people in the new development journey".

Aspiration to break through with clean energy

The Resolution of the 1st Congress of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, clearly defines the orientation of socio-economic development towards green, sustainable and integrated direction, based on 4 pillars: Energy - Logistics - Tourism - Green Agriculture. Accordingly, the energy industry is identified as the leading growth driver, playing a leading role in the transformation of the province's growth model in the new period.

According to the adjusted Power Plan VIII, Quang Tri province is oriented to develop a total power capacity of 12,963 MW by 2030, of which wind power alone accounts for 4,614 MW. The transmission grid system is planned in sync with many key power lines and transformer stations. This is a picture showing the long-term vision and strategy of Quang Tri in promoting natural advantages, especially wind and solar energy, in line with the Government's orientation of reducing carbon emissions and developing green and sustainable energy.

With a series of large-scale projects of national influence, along with the strong determination of the Party Committee, the Government and the support of the People, Quang Tri is facing a historic opportunity to break through and affirm its new position on the national energy map. Developing clean energy is not only a strategic direction but also a sustainable path, opening up a green future for Quang Tri province, a land full of sunshine and wind but full of aspirations to rise up.

In order for Quang Tri to break through to become a clean energy center of the region, the province needs to continue to improve mechanisms and policies and research specific incentives to attract strategic investors, especially in the fields of renewable energy, LNG, wind power, solar power and new technologies, such as: Green hydrogen, energy storage. Along with solutions focusing on synchronous development of infrastructure, especially infrastructure of economic zones, industrial parks, transportation systems, seaports, logistics, gradually upgrading and undergrounding the power grid to modernize energy infrastructure, Quang Tri firmly adheres to the principle of energy development associated with environmental protection and social security. Projects must ensure harmony of interests and practical support for the community in the project area.
