With inherent potentials and advantages, developing traditional medicine into a strong science in our country is a correct, important and urgent direction, not only contributing to the care and protection of people's health, but also contributing to economic growth, promoting Vietnamese culture and national identity to the world.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized this at the 20th Anniversary Ceremony of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, which took place on May 19 in Hanoi .
Many policies to preserve and develop traditional medicine
On behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister , Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long congratulated and commended the outstanding achievements of generations of teachers and students of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, contributing positively to the development of Vietnamese traditional medicine as well as the cause of protecting, caring for and improving people's health.
Over the past years, the Party, State and Government have always paid attention to, issued and effectively implemented many policies, guidelines, mechanisms and policies to preserve, develop and promote the value of Vietnamese traditional medicine. The system of policies and laws on traditional medicine has been constantly improved. State management, examination and treatment with traditional medicine, cultivation, processing and use of medicinal herbs, scientific research and international cooperation in the field of traditional medicine have received attention and investment.
Unique and specialized traditional medical examination and treatment techniques, non-drug diagnostic and treatment methods, traditional medicine prescriptions and ingredients are researched and developed. The Vietnam Oriental Medicine Association at all levels is strengthened and operates actively and effectively.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that up to now, the country has 14 units training human resources in traditional medicine and pharmacy at university level, including the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy. After 20 years of establishment, construction and development, 55 years of tradition, generations of cadres, lecturers and students of the Academy have always been united, made efforts and achieved very proud results. The training activities of the Academy have made a very important contribution to the construction and development of human resources in traditional medicine with nearly 11,000 medical staff with university and postgraduate degrees, accounting for over 50% of traditional medicine and pharmacy human resources nationwide.
The Academy has effectively implemented many scientific research cooperation activities with prestigious training and scientific research institutions and universities in China; cooperated in training, scientific research and medical examination and treatment with many partners in Europe and Asia such as Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Sweden, Korea, Japan, etc.
Improve the quality of training and scientific research
Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Huy - Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine said that after 20 years of construction and development, 55 years of tradition, the Academy has become a leading university training institution in the field of traditional medicine, contributing to the strong integration of Vietnamese traditional medicine with the region and the world.
The Academy's practice facilities include leading hospitals at the central level, Hanoi and other provinces and cities, research institutes and pharmaceutical companies. Every year, the Academy enrolls 1,300-1,400 students. The Academy's training scale is more than 6,000 students and over 700 postgraduate students. Over the past 55 years, the Academy has trained and supplemented the health sector with nearly 11,000 university and postgraduate medical staff and thousands of traditional medicine doctors, technicians...

The academy's continuous training and short-term training activities meet the increasingly expanding practical requirements. Scientific research, technology transfer and international cooperation activities are of interest and have become a prominent strength, contributing to bringing Vietnamese traditional medicine closer to life, practically serving the work of public health care and spreading to countries around the world.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long stated that our country is entering a new era of development with both opportunities and challenges. In that context, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine to continue to promote its traditions and achievements. In addition, the Academy needs to actively improve the quality of training and scientific research, aiming to become one of the institutions training specialized, high-quality, core human resources of the health sector; in which, focusing on implementing a number of key tasks.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries, agencies and localities to promptly resolve difficulties to quickly and effectively implement the investment project to build a new facility 2 of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine using non-refundable aid from the Chinese Government./.
- The Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, formerly known as the Traditional Medicine High School, was named Tue Tinh School and was established under Decision No. 133/BYT-QD dated March 11, 1971 of the Minister of Health, with Doctor Nguyen Kieu as principal.
- In response to the increasing demand for university and postgraduate human resources in traditional medicine in health care using traditional medicine, on February 2, 2005, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 30/2005/QD-TTg to establish the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine with full functions of training, research and medical examination and treatment, including Tue Tinh Hospital and Tue Tinh Traditional Medicine Research Institute.
- Over the years, the Academy has been honored to receive many noble awards, such as the First Class Labor Medal, Second Class Labor Medal, 02 Third Class Labor Medals, the Government's Emulation Flag, the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit and many other noble awards.
