A male patient, 85 years old, in Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province, with a history of kidney stones and high blood pressure, was brought to the hospital by his family with symptoms of loss of appetite and fatigue. After examination and testing, the patient was diagnosed by doctors with: Left ureteral stone in the upper third, left kidney with grade III hydronephrosis, kidney failure with high blood pressure.
After that, the patient was given the necessary tests, assessing his overall condition to proceed with retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery to remove the left ureteral stone. The surgery took place in the early morning of August 26, in 1 hour and 30 minutes, the surgical team removed a stone measuring about 16mm × 24mm.
According to Master - Resident Doctor Do Van Hieu, what we need to pay attention to in this case is that the patient is elderly, has underlying diseases, and was hospitalized due to fatigue and loss of appetite. Through investigation, there were no symptoms of urinary stones. However, after doing tests, the doctor discovered that the left ureteral stone caused severe hydronephrosis, the left kidney almost lost its function, requiring surgery and consideration to come up with the most appropriate treatment method for this patient.
The doctor also warned that ureteral stones are a very common disease, with a high incidence in the community. This is a dangerous disease because it can cause many complications to human health. The larger the kidney stone, the more dangerous it is for the patient. If not detected and treated promptly, ureteral stones can cause many dangerous complications such as hydronephrosis, pyelonephritis, pyelonephritis, kidney failure, sepsis, etc.
