Attending the ceremony were Vice President , First Vice President of the Central Emulation and Commendation Council Vo Thi Anh Xuan, along with representatives of leaders of a number of central ministries, departments, branches and generations of managers, lecturers, students of the school.
At the ceremony, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan awarded the First Class Labor Medal to the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. This is a noble award from the Party and the State, recognizing the school's outstanding achievements in foreign language education and diplomacy, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of Vietnam in the era of international integration.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of Hanoi National University Dao Thanh Truong said: Exactly 70 years ago, after the Geneva Agreement was signed, the North was completely liberated, in 1955, at the Indochina Campus (now Bach Mai Ward, Hanoi City), the Ministry of Education opened two foreign language classes, Russian and Chinese, to train staff to support interpreters for the Soviet and Chinese expert delegations working in Vietnam. This event marked the birth of the School of Foreign Languages, now the University of Foreign Languages, Hanoi National University.
Over 70 years of construction and development, from this school, generations of students from all over the country have realized their dreams of becoming teachers, excellent officials and leaders in agencies from central to local levels, embassies, domestic and international agencies and enterprises..., who have affirmed Vietnamese intelligence and mettle, making important contributions to the development of the country.

Entering a new stage of development, Deputy Director Dao Thanh Truong shared: The birth of Resolution 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthrough in education and training development is a special, unprecedented opportunity for the education and training sector, educational institutions including Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the University of Foreign Languages. Implementing this Resolution, Vietnam National University, Hanoi will direct and provide comprehensive support for the University of Foreign Languages to continue to affirm its pioneering role and lead in innovation.
Hanoi National University will review the school's mission and vision, and change its strategy so that the University of Foreign Languages can meet the changes and requirements of the Party, the State, and the Education and Training sector. The school needs to strongly innovate its educational methods in the direction of developing self-study capacity, independent and creative thinking; closely linked to research, practice, and applying objective and honest assessment forms. Promote the integration of advanced technology, digital capacity, and artificial intelligence in teaching and experiential activities, helping learners to soon form technological thinking, creativity, and adaptability.
The University of Foreign Languages focuses on building a modern, internationalized learning environment, making English the second language, and expanding to regional languages to enhance international exchange; developing a team of highly qualified and competent lecturers, teachers, and managers, applying technology and mastering global educational trends.
The Vice President of Hanoi National University expressed his belief that with its glorious tradition, with its dedicated teaching staff, with the aspirations and talents of generations of learners, the University of Foreign Languages will continue to be a prestigious address for training and research in languages, international studies and a number of social sciences and humanities, making a great contribution to the development of Hanoi National University, of education and training, and of the country in the new era.
In his commemorative speech, Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council of the University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi Do Tuan Minh said: Over the past 70 years, from an initial foreign language training institution in 1955, the school has continuously contributed to the development and integration, construction and protection of the country through training high-quality human resources, scientific research, implementing innovation, transferring knowledge, providing products and services to meet social needs according to international standards in the fields of foreign language education, linguistics, international studies and a number of related social sciences and humanities.
Over the past 7 decades, the University of Foreign Languages has trained tens of thousands of students for society. The school currently teaches many majors in languages, pedagogy (English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Russian, German, Arabic, Vietnamese, etc.), Communications, Economics at the university level and has a training system from junior high school to graduate school. The school's teaching staff constantly innovates teaching methods and actively conducts scientific research to meet the changing needs of society.
Over the years, the school has been honored to receive many noble medals and awards, with the quality of teaching and training and the brand of the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi increasingly growing stronger and reaching higher and further.
