On September 4, the High-Level Tourism Forum, with the theme "Shaping the Future of Tourism: Towards Digital Transformation and Green Transformation", within the framework of the Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Fair 2025 took place in Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam - an ideal convergence point, connecting key global tourism markets
Speaking at the forum, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh recognized tourism as a "smokeless industry", an economic sector rich in humanity, pointing out Vietnam's unique potential compared to international friends and businesses around the world.
Regarding Ho Chi Minh City, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized to the member cities of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO), the city's position as the largest economic and tourism center in the country, converging outstanding potential in economics, culture, services and international connections; being the "gateway" to welcome international visitors and the starting point of many journeys to explore Vietnam, developing the MICE tourism model.
With such potential, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that this is the momentum for Vietnam to become an ideal convergence point, connecting key global tourism markets.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister reviewed the policies and guidelines of Vietnam in developing tourism such as expanding visa exemption, implementing e-visa, extending the length of stay; opening more direct flights connecting Vietnam with many countries in the world; the system of high-class hotels and resorts associated with tourist areas developing strongly; preferential policies on investment and tariffs have attracted many international tourism corporations...
Digital tourism and green tourism: 2 pillars of sustainable tourism development
Regarding digital transformation and green transformation, the Deputy Prime Minister said that they are the "golden key", two "strategic pillars" to create sustainable tourism development. In which, digital transformation is not only technology, but also an opportunity to create smart tourism experiences; green transformation is a trend, a responsibility for a sustainable destination.
At the forum, the Deputy Prime Minister shared some orientations for the rapid and sustainable development of the tourism industry in the coming time.
That is to continue to improve institutions, innovate thinking about tourism development, shift from the mindset of "growth at all costs" to the mindset of "sustainable development". Strengthen actions and expand international cooperation towards digital transformation and green transformation.
In addition, it is necessary to promote regional and industry linkages; invest heavily in human resource development; support the business community, including small and medium enterprises. Especially, orient global commitment and action.
"I propose that today's forum should study and develop a set of principles on digital tourism and green tourism, a common framework of standards, encouraging countries and businesses to apply, so that global tourism can develop harmoniously, responsibly and sustainably.
Vietnam is ready to accompany, actively contribute and be a responsible member in this initiative," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
