On the afternoon of May 16, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized a ceremony to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18) with the theme "Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation: Breakthroughs to bring the country into an era of wealth and prosperity".
Before the celebration, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and leaders of ministries and branches visited booths introducing results of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation (S&T, ST, CDS) of start-up enterprises, institutes, and schools.

This year's festival is held in the context of the science and technology sector focusing on implementing Resolution 57 of the Politburo . The resolution identifies the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the key factor, prerequisite and best opportunity for Vietnam to make a breakthrough, realizing the aspiration of becoming a rich and powerful nation in the new era. The event was attended by many scientists, technology experts at home and abroad, along with generations of leaders and managers of the science and technology sector.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung said that, looking back on the past, every officer in the science and technology sector is extremely proud and deeply grateful for the efforts, intelligence and silent dedication of previous generations that have laid a solid foundation for today's achievements, contributing to making Vietnam's appearance brighter and stronger.
According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, the 2013 Constitution affirms: “Developing science and technology is the top national policy; playing a key role in the country's socio-economic development”. This spirit continues to be concretized and elevated in important Resolutions of the Party, especially Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation. Resolution 57 has determined that science and technology, innovation and digital transformation must truly become strategic breakthroughs, the main driving force to turn Vietnam into a high-income developed country by 2045. Amending the Law on Science and Technology into the Law on Science and Technology and Digital Transformation is to institutionalize the new orientations, guidelines and policies of the Party and State.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung sent his congratulations to scientists, workers and science lovers nationwide and thanked generations of scientists, science managers and businesses for their support and contributions in the past time.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that the world is entering a period of profound transformation, led by the fourth industrial revolution, with the rapid advances of AI, big data, IOT, biotechnology, new energy, and especially the trend of green transformation and global digital transformation. This is a big challenge, but at the same time a golden opportunity for Vietnam to break through and rise up.
In that context, the Government clearly identified: Science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are the shortest path, the vital factor for Vietnam to realize its aspiration for rapid, sustainable, inclusive and autonomous development, becoming a high-income developed country by 2045. Science and technology and digital transformation are not only the driving force for economic growth, but also the foundation for building a safe, humane and prosperous digital Vietnam; they are strategic tools to improve labor productivity, protect the environment, respond to climate change, and improve the quality of life of the people.

To successfully implement this strategic goal, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung requested the Ministry of Science and Technology to closely coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to urgently perfect institutions, create an open legal corridor, and maximize the potential of science, technology and innovation.
Guiding documents in a breakthrough and outstanding direction, especially in organizational management, finance and human resources; boldly proposing controlled testing mechanisms for new technologies and business models. Institutions must truly become a "bridge" and "lever" for science, technology and innovation to penetrate deeply and spread into all aspects of economic and social life. Promote restructuring of the national innovation system towards efficiency, closely linking the public and private sectors.
It is necessary to truly put enterprises at the center of the innovation system and build universities and research institutes into strong, pioneering research entities. Promote links between research institutes, universities and enterprises to boost commercialization of research results and develop the science and technology market. Build an effective technology exchange. At the same time, focus on key investments in basic research and mastery of strategic, fundamental and core technologies. Support the development of national "Make in Vietnam" digital platforms with international competitiveness.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung also proposed a breakthrough policy to attract, train, use and promote science and technology talents. This is the most valuable resource. There should be a suitable remuneration mechanism, a favorable working environment, and autonomy and responsibility for scientists, especially young scientists and scientists working in remote, border and island areas. Promote the role of Vietnamese intellectuals abroad, attract international experts to participate in domestic science and technology activities.
Promote science diplomacy, proactively integrate deeply into the international community in science, technology and innovation. Take advantage of the world's advanced knowledge and technology; actively participate in global research networks; gradually participate in building international rules and standards. Science diplomacy must be a manifestation of a country that knows how to listen with reason and dialogue with knowledge, bringing Vietnamese science to the world and bringing world knowledge to Vietnam.
At the event, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the list of honors for scientists, organizations, and businesses with outstanding science and technology products in 2024.
