Vietnam landscape under the Milky Way

HeritageHeritage08/04/2024

I used to miss the summer nights when I spread out my mat on the porch and watched the stars. The twinkling light of billions of stars across the night sky was actually the Milky Way. Urban life rarely gives me the opportunity to see those sparkling stars. Luckily, I was able to enjoy the starry night through photos of the Milky Way taken from all over the country by photographers, including Tran Minh Dung and Bui Xuan Viet. These two young photographers shared that because they are so passionate about capturing Vietnamese landscapes under the Milky Way, when they have time, they escape the city to return to the countryside, climb mountains, wade through streams, camp... to take this type of astronomical photos. To get the right shots, they had to go to the shooting location several times, stay up all night, sometimes the shoot lasted until dawn. The best time to hunt for photos of the Milky Way is from February to November, ideally when summer turns to autumn, on clear nights with no clouds, no moon or the moon sets when the Milky Way appears; or best of all, on a new moon, located in the opposite direction of the Milky Way. At this time the foreground is illuminated by moonlight, contributing to creating the most magical and mysterious night scene.
Places along the North-South route such as Go Cong beach (Tien Giang), Da Lat pink grass hill (Lam Dong), Hang En waterfall (Gia Lai) to Ban Gioc waterfall ( Cao Bang ), Ma Pi Leng pass (Ha Giang) are places where you can enjoy the scenery and take beautiful photos of the Milky Way because these places are far from residential areas and less polluted by artificial light.
